Catch of the Day...You're Choice...Flounder or Trout?

By
Real Estate Agent with TOVIJE Enterprises, Inc.

Floyd Wickman has a lot of great ideas and is frequently a featured writer in BrokerAgent News.  But after reading through the last set of educational emails I got from him....I am starting to see fish in my office!  That's right, FISH.

No, it's not because our office is in a beach town, known for it's fantastic fishing, it's because of his question at the tail end of his "I Quit Real Estate (Part 3 of 5) " email.  ARE YOU A FLOUNDER OR A TROUT

flounderYou see, he says that the "FLOUNDER lies at the bottom of the sea, waiting for food to come to it. It allows the tides to control its movements and it doesn't resist natural forces. Consequently, it can be easily caught."

trout

"The TROUT swims against the currents, chooses carefully what it will eat, decides when to resist, when to rest and consequently, is very difficult to catch. Correspondingly, the FLOUNDER PERSON reacts only to what comes his or her way. The TROUT PERSON acts with forethought and self-discipline.

The FLOUNDER PERSON waits for something to happen. While the TROUT PERSON makes things happen.  The FLOUNDER PERSON concentrates on activities, and the TROUT PERSON concentrates on goals and objectives."   I suspect that there is a little FLOUNDER IN US ALL, but Floyd says if you are not a TROUT PERSON....YOU CAN BE!  Whew!!  Who wants to lay around bottom feeding waiting for !#^*@! to happen??

Floyd further motivates us by telling us to take charge of our life by controlling our habits.....don't let them control YOU, Mr. or Ms. FLOUNDER!

So I am looking around my office and seeing fish! And while I mostly see TROUT HEADS, there certainly are a few FLOUNDER HEADS in the group.

TROUTS are zipping in....fins waving back and forth,  to write a contract ...fax an offer...make a phone call and  then sailing out to swim upstream to the next showing.

The FLOUNDERS? They are rocking in their chairs, waiting for gravity to release them or waiting for a lead to pop into their email.....waiting for the tide to turn as they attempt to disrupt the activity of the TROUT. But the TROUT stay focused and true to their mission eventually becoming uninteresting to the FLOUNDER who needs a bottom feeding friend to share the wait for the tide to come back in.

You've seen these FISH in your own offices, haven't you? Do you wonder how your FELLOW FISH would identify you?  You know which one you are........

Are you a FLOUNDER? If you are....are you interested in becoming a TROUT? How will you go about doing it? If you are a TROUT...were you born a TROUT? or did you have a MENTOR TROUT?

Louann,

I think most people are born they way they are.  However there are a few FLOUNDERS that are now TROUTS and vice versa.

Creative Real Estate Solutions...

Louann were you at our office meeting last week?  My broker went through this story to inspire us all.  And last Thursday every one of us (4 agents) got a listing...    Maybe they should add Flounder and Trout to the graphic before posting....

Louann, WOW... oh how I know of that which you speak.  The thing is those that are most threatened by the trout will try to kill it... little do they know that INSPIRES the trout all the more.

THANKS for the coaching!  Craig
