I Think I'm the Same Person

I think I'm the same person.

When the news of this pandemic started getting serious, I was already thinking about how my business and personal life may change. There has to be a silver lining in the madness that may happen, I was sure of it. Not to get political, but I was pretty sure if the millions of people that subscribe to conspiracy theories, I knew the country was in deep doo doo. That has proven to be happening all across the country. I told my family that we were going to be taking this very seriously. I told my employees we were going to be taking it very seriously. I feel there will be a point in time when we will not have to wear a mask in public, but it will be a long time coming.

My feeling on the issue of wearing a mask is how I have come to realize that many people that I thought were caring, considerate, kind, generous, loving people, are not any of those things at all. I get the medical reason for not wearing a mask. I don't get the "I'm not going to worry if I get sick, I'm tough enough to handle it" mentality. It just seems so selfish and inconsiderate of every other person that you just might be passing the virus to that will bring it home to their kids or parents or grandma. I don't think there is anything sadder than hearing those stories of a loved one dying alone in a hospital because their family can't even visit them as they are dying. Is it possible they caught the disease from someone that decided they didn't have to wear a mask? Maybe, maybe not. But I for one, can not have that hanging over me when I lay down to sleep each night.

My family and my employees are going to wear a mask as annoying as it is until this passes and the scientists say it's ok to go out without a mask on. Did I change because of a pandemic? No, but how I look at a lot of other people sure did. mask

Good morning, Scott Seaton Jr. Bourbonnais Kankakee IL Home Inspector I have boxes of disposable masks plus an N95 just like the ones worn by EMT's who go into everyone's home and are next to people who have tested positive for the virus.... it's sooooo important to wear a mask.

Hello Scott - there are times when it is difficult to sort through the information and then there are times when things seem quite clear.

Hi Scott,
It's a small inconvenience, isn't it?  The frustrating thing is, there is so much conflicting information that you don't know what to believe... so people just take the side they WANT to believe and adamantly defend their right to do so, others be damned.   The big take-a-way is... you learn a lot about people in a crisis.

You can say that again. Maybe just maybe there will be a vaccine sooner rather than later.

Hi Scott- I do wear a mask and as someone with respiratory issues, it's not easy. However, for me, it's what you do. I've been so impressed at the efforts many of our small and large businesses have taken to make sure that we all remain safe.
