6 Elements of an Effective Kitchen Office

With kitchens being the hub of the home today, they often need a spot for keeping the household organized. Ideally, a mini office includes a desk for sorting mail, charging devices, stashing cookbooks, planning menus, keeping track of schedules and paying bills. A kitchen mini office also can be used for working at home when needed; especially, in these times. Here are six features for a successful kitchen workplace:

1. Is Located Outside the Kitchen Work Zone

2. Has Places for Corralling and Charging Electronics

3. Includes Ample Storage

4. Provides an Organizational Pit Stop

5. Includes Shelves for Cookbooks

6. Is Well-Lighted

Hi Pat... for some reason I never used a kitchen office... maybe that's because I already had an office in my house. I always had shelves in the kitchen for cookbooks, however... something many builders don't think about.

I remember when kitchen office space was put into just about every house... more recently I see less and less of it in new construction. In really high end construction in our area I see that home office in a large laundry room or as a separate space behind the kitchen.

I am finding many people today just go online instead of having cookbooks, but i do love to flick through a cookbook for inspiration and to see all the lovely photos. Good suggestions for a home kitchen office.

Hi Pat- I can remember seeing older homes with a tiny desk area in the kitchen...so tiny a laptop would barely fit. But some like an office or desk area in the kitchen and you've provided great tips for one.

Pat, that would be a well-organized kitchen.  It was fun hearing the buyer last week at the walkthrough deciding where all the kitchen stuff was going into which cabinet.

We do have a desk in our kitchen and Chef Dolores has a major collection of cookbooks. However, her real office workspace is in our home office.
