How Our City Responded to a Protest
This past weekend, our normally quiet little historic town experienced two days of back to back protests. Both of these events were planned in advance, and therefore, the city was able to plan and prepare. As a business and building owner on our town square, we were of course interested in what to expect.
What I can report is I have never been more proud of the town where I reside. Our law enforcement agencies were extremely prepared, had coordinated efforts on all fronts, and exhibited extreme professionalism throughout the events. Our Chief of Police stepped up and all of the people marching, business owners, and citizens experienced an event with absolutely no incidents.
I was impressed by those who marched. They were allowed to speak from their hearts and those listening gave each voice the respect they needed. After the event was over, the participants came up to our officers and personally thanked them and offered them water.
These events were excellent examples of respect on both sides. It was truly wonderful to watch and experience. I am proud of those who marched as well as those who were out doing their jobs for the city.
Thank you, Granbury for stepping up in such an impressive manner. This event proved that there is a right way to make yourself heard. It does not have to include violence. Sadly, however, this sort of good news rarely makes it into the media.
I loved witnessing the mutual respect from both sides. It was a proud moment for Granbury. Thank you to everyone who helped to make these events peaceful.
