How Our City Responded to a Protest

How Our City Responded to a Protest

This past weekend, our normally quiet little historic town experienced two days of back to back protests. Both of these events were planned in advance, and therefore, the city was able to plan and prepare. As a business and building owner on our town square, we were of course interested in what to expect.

What I can report is I have never been more proud of the town where I reside. Our law enforcement agencies were extremely prepared, had coordinated efforts on all fronts, and exhibited extreme professionalism throughout the events. Our Chief of Police stepped up and all of the people marching, business owners, and citizens experienced an event with absolutely no incidents.

I was impressed by those who marched. They were allowed to speak from their hearts and those listening gave each voice the respect they needed. After the event was over, the participants came up to our officers and personally thanked them and offered them water.

These events were excellent examples of respect on both sides. It was truly wonderful to watch and experience. I am proud of those who marched as well as those who were out doing their jobs for the city.

Thank you, Granbury for stepping up in such an impressive manner. This event proved that there is a right way to make yourself heard. It does not have to include violence. Sadly, however, this sort of good news rarely makes it into the media.

I loved witnessing the mutual respect from both sides. It was a proud moment for Granbury. Thank you to everyone who helped to make these events peaceful.

Hi Paula- I'm with you...good news is always welcome but now more than ever, it's needed. Houston fared better than some of the other nephew and some of his fellow HPD officers stood while they were pelted with rocks. But there were true protesters who did what they set out to do, then later had peaceful conversations with the officers.

One Houstonian brought his pressure washer out to downtown Houston at 2 AM to clean some of the sidewalks and walls.

Hello Paula - peaceful protest is a part of our country and it is good to hear that Granbury Texas responded so well.  Proper preparation matters.

Kathy Streib I was following what was happening in my old stomping ground of Houston. So thankful our cities were safe.

Michael Jacobs you are so correct. And yes, proper preparation was the key.

So encouraging to hear how things went for your town. We recently also had a great protest day locally, organized by young people, and that in itself was also something to be proud of. Thank you for your encouraging post.

Morning Paula.

Like Granbury, we had two of them also.  The first one didn't end well, but the second one was without incident

We all have the right to demonstrate, but not to destroy property that does not belong to us.  Happy to hear that there were no incidents...We stayed peaceful here also.  A

Paula many of the protesters in my area were peaceful as well - after one night of mayham with no notice to anyone. That, got stopped thankfully in it's tracks and people were arrested for the damage they had done. Disgraceful.

Peaceful protest are the way to go - everywhere.
