Local events are on a case by case basis right now. Looking back at our Highlands Ranch property management community blog during this time last year, the summer is in full swing with many different things going on. There was no shortage of things to do, or places to go, or live events and concerts to see. Highlands Ranch seems to be almost completely open, with the one notable absence of the movie theaters. AMC, one of the most popular theater chains in the world, has only expressed tentative plans to reopen in July. The Highlands Ranch AMC 24 is a staple to the local community, and an entertainment hub that thrives in summer. Having no new movie releases and the first two months of the official summer movie season postponed is a strange feeling. One hopes that in July, not only will it be safe enough to re-open the movie theaters, but that it will feel safe to go and enjoy a movie for two hours. Further, it remains to be seen if the movies with a July release date will hold firm or postpone at the last minute. It seems to be an interesting coin flip as to whether a movie holding firm will be good or bad. Christopher Nolan’s new movie Tenet is currently the only wide release, big name blockbuster with a mid-July release date. Most other movies have shifted their release dates to the end of the year or even 2021. If Tenet should keep its release date, will it be a huge hit, since it will be the only new movie in theaters, playing on almost every screen multiple time a day? Or will the fear of returning to a public space with people you do not know and are stuck with for two hours take over that? Will there be just enough people in either camp where it will not matter to the bottom line of the film’s gross? It seems that if enough people have enough pent up demand, the movie could be a huge hit. If there are no competitors slated to come out around the same time, then Tenet can stay in the largest screens for much longer, allowing even smaller crowds to catch the movie on their own time. The only movie in town stays in theaters in a prime spot for a whole month could be a huge revenue booster. I guess we will not know until the forthcoming weeks, but as of right now this seems to be the plan. Regardless of the outcome, other studios will take note and the rest of the movie going year will mold to fit whatever approach works best.
