Throwback Thursday: Lessons From a Turtle

By
Education & Training with Although I'm retired, I love sharing my knowledge and learning from other real estate industry professionals.

The Pandemic inspired me to reshare this post I wrote in 2018. Since I can't re-blog my own posts, I had to copy and paste the contents.  I think it's a reminder that we need to refocus, adjust, and carry on.

"The race is not to the swift or the strong but to those who endure to the end."

Last week while golfing at Three Lake Public Golf Course, my friends and I enjoyed watching this turtle cross the 13th fairway.  We're assuming he was moving from one lake to another across the course.

He was very determined not to let us impede his progress.  Every time I would get in front of him to take a picture, he would turn and go another direction.  As I would move again, he would change directions again.  We were both, literally, going in circles. I wonder if turtles get dizzy?

I finally ended up taking a picture of him from behind as he moved away and got back on track to wherever he was headed before we came along.   Life is like that sometimes, isn't it?  We get distracted or interrupted in our quests and we get stalled or have to take a detour as roadblocks arise.  Eventually, though, we can get back on track (or find a new direction) and start moving forward again in our intended direction.

I also learned turtles can move faster than you think.  Anytime I got near him (or maybe a her) he would speed up his gait.  Maybe we can take another lesson from that turtle.  When we get interrupted and stalled or sent in circles, we must refocus and move on with renewed enthusiasm.

Carry on...

Congratulations on your feature recognition. This is good advice to share.

Thanks for the lessons learned from our friendly turtle population.  Plodding forward is a thing of nature.  Each in his own way, no?  Of course us humans need to turbocharge our engines because we don't want our competition to overtake us!!  ha

Good morning Carol Williams, we can certainly learn a lot from turtles. Sometimes, we want to run full force, sometimes no movement at all.

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS
We've all been that turtle more than once and had to shift directions over and over, haven't we?  Happy Saturday!

Sometime turbo is good and sometimes it leads us into a brick wall, doesn't it?

Hi Beth Atalay
Your comment makes me wonder what a turtle's full force is... or for that matter what their slow speed is. Perhaps they only have one speed.  LOL

Have a great week!

So glad you shared your 2018 post as I missed it the first time around. I got a kick out of "I wonder if turtles get dizzy?"

Hi Doug Dawes
Maybe turtles don't get dizzy because they don't move fast enough?
