After ordering some new business cards, one of my recent clients asked me if I could help with name tags as well. Since I don't offer name tags, I decided to do my client a favor and look for a company that I'd be willing to use.
A Google search and some quick research later, and I found Name Tag Pros.
Their website is clean and easy to navigate, and their order process appears to be very user friendly. I was also impressed with their about page, which highlights the measures they take to ensure good customer service.
Based on my findings, this is a company I would have no problem doing business with, so I replied back to my client with the information I'd found.
I obviously have no say in whether or not my clients will use the recommendations I make, but in taking some extra time, without the expectation of future business, it's far more likely that my clients will in fact do more business with me down the road.
In addition to going the extra mile for my client, I decided to reach out to the owner of the website as well. I didn't ask about an affiliate program, or try to work out some kind of commission deal. I simply let the owner know that I'd just refered a client, because I was impressed by their website, and I plan to refer more business their way.
I also let them know that I help professionals with business cards, and if they don't already have a resource there, I'd be happy to step in and fill that need on their end.
The reply from the owner was very positive, and he did express interest in reciprocating. So now we both have a resource we didn't have before.
But am I expecting more business to come my way because of it? Not at all! If it happens, great, but I'm just happy to have a new resource that I can refer my clients to as needed, and hopefully Name Tag Pros is able to benefit.
The moral of the story is that it's perfectly okay to network and build business relationships without expecting some kind of payment in return.
I firmly believe that things usually work out best, and the greatest blessings come, by serving others without expectations.
So the next time you find yourself in need of a new name tag, be sure to check out Name Tag Pros!
