I just heard a woman on television discussing the death of George Floyd, and saying that "this was the straw that broke the Campbell's back". I wasn't sure I'd heard her right. It was, after all, before coffee, so I rewinded and replayed, and sure enough... that's what she said. (maybe a reference to something that happened during William Wallace's time?) While I don't disagree with the sentiment behind her statement, it made me think about many other things that are misheard.
My daughter thought that we bought inexpensive things for "Chunk Change"... and that evergreen trees had "Pine Combs". There's even a well-known book that venerates misheard music lyrics... the book is titled "Scuse me while I kiss this guy"... a riff on a Jimi Hendrix lyric. Or my personal favourite misheard lyric from the Beatle's Lucy in the sky with Diamonds: "The girl with colitis goes by".
What's your misheard line?
