In the 1970s and 80s the funky soul sound was popular. A lot of groups migrated to dance music that featured that funky sound. One of those groups was The Commodores. They weren't just a vocal group, but a band of talented musicians that could sing. They put together a string of hits including nine Grammy Award nominations and a 1986 win for the song Nightshift.
The band is often identified for lead singer Lionel Ritchie, but some of their biggest hits came with Clyde Orange (Brickhouse) or J.D. Nichols (Nightshift) as lead singer.
Lionel Ritchie left the Commodores in 1982 to persue a solo career. It is often hard to distinguish which songs were recorded as The Commodores and which were solo Lionel Ritchie. Since they have both had a distinguished place in Rock history.
Today’s song is all Commodores, but it of course featured Lionel Ritchie in the lead singer role.
Since it is a beautiful Sunday morning, Father's Day, I decided to feature an easy listening song, Easy.
