Growing up I listened to a lot of soul music. Perhaps that is why I am such a deeply emotional, romantic, and intellectual person. One of my favorite artists was Sam Cooke.
With such popular songs such as “You Send Me”, "A Change Is Gonna Come”, "Cupid", "Wonderful World", "Chain Gang", "Twistin’ the Night Away", and "We’re Having a Party". Sam led and influenced many of the popular soul singers that followed in his footsteps.
Sam Cooke was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987. Sam is ranked 16th on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Greatest Artists.
Today’s song "Bring It On Home to Me" was released in 1962. It is hard to believe that such a great recording was released as the “B” side of another Cook hit (We’re) Having a Party.
The song reached number two on the Billboard Hot R&B chart and charted to #13 on the Hot 100 chart. It is one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
One other interesting fact about this song is the backing vocals were performed by another up and coming soul singer named Lou Rawls, who toured with Sam in the early years of his career.
