Yarnell's Ice Cream....Turkey Hill Ice Cream

We have read that our hometown ice cream factory is going to start making Turkey Hill All Natural Ice Cream.  We are not sure when or how or wheather Yarnell's will have a new name.

We are just sure that as the old saying goes, "Till the cows come home," applies here and we will definitely love Yarnell's till the cows come home.  AND!!  LOOK!!  Has a giant cow arrived to stay?  Or is she just passing through?"  She has been parked at Yarnell's for several days so I snapped a picture.  I am in love with her already so I hope she stays!

I have never heard of Yarnell's before, but all-natural ice cream sounds pretty good to me!

Hello Barbara - Yarnell's Ice Cream, like that cow in your photo, has definitely made a good impression on the residents of Searcy Arkansas.

My first job after graduating from high school in 1954 was Yarnell's Ice Cream Factory. The job I liked the best was the chocolate ice cream bar line. Trays of ice cream bars would go through a brine solution and arrive at a stand that had a vat of melted chocolate. The bars would be lifted out of the tray by hand and immersed in the chocolate. Voila, the birth of chocolate ice cream bars. We got ice cream at a good discount and many a late afternoon, I would trudge home with a gallon of cream.

I hated washing the foul smelling metal ice cream containers in a hot, steamy, room on Saturdays so I left after 6 weeks and took over Harold Gene Sullivan's job at the department store. Same wages, 40 cents an hour, but much more enjoyable work.

My favorite flavor was Ozark Black Walnut. All other black walnut ice cream I have had was maple flavored which I don't like. Yarnell's left it vanilla with chopped black walnuts. Yum!

Barbara you have done  several blogs on Yarnells. See one here.

Brian, it sounds perfect, doesn't it.

Michael, the cow is new.  Most folks have not seen it.  I was driving on a less-traveled street and saw it.

Don, I went back and reread the Yarnells blog.  It was good, even if I do say so myself!  It had so many good comments, too!  That picture that you doctored and put melted ice cream on the street was SO creative!!  Thanks for reminding me of it.  With about 1800 blogs out there, it is hard for me to remember what I have done.

Barbara, great information for local people - and ice-cream lovers! The sculpture is super, too!
