What's An Upside Down House

If you tried describing an upside-down house, most people would think the mortgage was upside down, underwater, or in trouble.

Searching for upside-down dwellings, here are a few that showed up.

Upside-down houses

When I think of this term describing a house, it is the main level for the owner's suite, kitchen, other essential rooms, all on the same level.

And the additional bedrooms and recreation room on the lower level. But this lower level is above ground. An example is 8978 Furrow Ave and the few Deck Houses that I have represented over the years like...

1504 LaBelle Ave  Click For Photos

An adult home, a grown-up home, a forever home...yep, an upside-down house is what I am describing.

Maybe for empty nesters, who want the house to be unique just for them. When the company, family, and friends visit, they still have privacy because everyone else goes to the lower but above ground level.

This area may have three or more bedrooms, a bath, it's own entry, and completely away from the owner's living areas.

An upside-down Deck House will be a unique

listing in the next two weeks.

Stay tuned for photos.

Good morning, Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 what I think you're describing is called a "raised ranch" in our area.... (many agents interchange a split entry with a raised ranch and they are two very different styles)....

when you go in the front door, you are actually in the lowest level of the home...that level has the kitchen and formal rooms.....

walk up the full stairway and you have your bedrooms....I can remember listing one decades ago....not a typical layout.

I guess we really should turn the market upside down to find the right house for our buyers, so to speak.

Hello Margaret - when hearing of upside down things, people no longer need to think of those things with a pineapple  appeal.  Clever real estate twist.

Barbara Todaro This one is even more unusual.

There is the raised ranch, a bi-level, and a split foyer that are similar. This one is going to be different. House built on a hill, enter back or side patios into the rec room, 3 bedrooms, laundry storage, etc. a half flight upstairs to the kitchen, DR, great room, office master bedroom bath, etc. And there is a spiral staircase in the first level that goes up to a 3rd-floor studio/loft/bedroom and that staircase is its only access.
