Balloon Releases Banned in Montgomery County, Maryland

Balloon releases are now banned in Montgomery County, Maryland.

The County Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a bill that prohibits the intentional release of helium-filled latex or mylar balloons into the atmosphere. The ban does not apply to balloons that are unintentionally released, released by a minor without the permission of an adult, used for scientific or meteorological purposes, or used solely indoors.

Those who are caught intentionally releasing non-biodegradable balloons outdoors can face up to a $750 fine. Gaithersburg Patch

Discovery Park Grand Openingdiscovery
City leaders and invited guests officially opened Discovery Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 25. The nature-focused space is the 27th park in the City's inventory. It's home to more than three acres of passive recreational space featuring five covered picnic structures, two playgrounds, five walking paths, a four square court, a secret garden, a butterfly garden, the Great Lawn, and the City's first Gaga pit. Read more about the ribbon cutting ceremony here.

Hmm, I guess there is some kind of evidence that entails it is harmful to the environment?  It certainly doesn't seem like it would be as harmful as all of the pollution that big corporations put into the air on a daily basis.

Hello Roy - the constant barrage of information prompts opinions to be expressed and reactions to occur.  There is much to be gained by additional insight.  I admit, an eye-catching headline or a soundbite can gain attention but the truth often goes beyond that initial reaction.  Maybe it's a sign of the times and perhaps something else.

Hi Roy- I know that when we lived in FL, the balloons can become a hazard to the sealife.
