Saying No to Undiluted Hokum
After watching several documentaries on Joan Crawford, I became curious as to why Mommie Dearest was written and filmed. Seems Christina, adopted daughter, carried much hate for her, revealing all in a #1 best selling book and movie.
Many people are more than willing to believe in the worst of others and often do, once convincingly swayed. Imagine being unable to defend against a salacious book/movie designed to destroy your entire life's work and reputation.
According to several sources:
While Christina grew up, a solid wedge was driven between parent and child, though Joan, according to her close circle was a doting mother. Christina desired her mother's fame but fell short. She was angry, lacking what came naturally to Joan.
People loved Joan Crawford because she was very generous and kind to everyone, from her children to adoring fans, to stylists and wardrobe people, fellow actors/actresses, the directors of 80+ films. Her lengthy career spanned six decades.
When Joan passed away in 1977, she left absolutely nothing to Christina. The movie, Mommie Dearest, sent shock-waves throughout America when released in theaters in 1981. "No wire hangers!" is still used as an example for Internet memes.
Interesting that Christina waited until her mother died to release the book and then several years later, the movie. Joan was unable to deny anything Christina put to paper or film. The twins (Christina's siblings) also discounted her sensational stories.
You may be wondering what this has to do with the real estate industry...As professionals, it is our duty to potential buyers and sellers to seek viable fact-based data. Clients depend on that and local insights to help guide them to informed decisions.
My Advice: Research subject matter thoroughly to initiate an informed conclusion based on facts, rather than following along with everyone else due to less resistance. The truth sets you free but lies will hold a teller captive for the rest of time.
* Undiluted Hokum - movies and storylines, according to Joan that were not plausible. She refused to take roles in such ventures.
