10 Reasons Affiliate Marketing is a Better Alternative to Multi-Level Marketing

Are you considering finally joining that MLM company your friend has been nagging you about, as a way to earn extra income?

I was too, and got VERY close before I found a much better alternative - Affiliate marketing.

In case you are still contemplating, here are 10 reasons why Affiliate marketing is a better alternative to Multi-level marketing.

Reason #1: You get to choose the products

First and foremost, with affiliate marketing, you can decide the products that you want to promote. In fact, many bloggers started their blogs in areas that they are passionate about. Once they build their reader base, they identify affiliate products that are appropriate for their audience to monetize their interests.

You may argue, “but I also get to choose which MLM company I want to join.” While that’s true, but once you made the decision to join a company, you are pretty much limited to whatever products they have available for you to promote.

Reason #2: Limitless of products to promote

While we are on the subject of products, with affiliate marketing, not only do you get to choose the products, but you can also promote as many affiliate products as you like without paying a single penny.

Yes, you can also join multiple MLM companies to diversify the products you want to sell, however, many times, there are fees associated with joining and the upkeep as a member to those companies, which can become expensive if you have a collection of them.

Reason #3: No commitment to the products and service you promote

What happens if you realise the products are not as profitable as you originally thought, and you want to venture to something else?

Well, if you are in MLM, you are pretty much stuck. In fact, they may even make you feel that it’s about your selling technique, or you are just not doing it … right. If you decide to walk away from an MLM company, you are also flushing the joining fee and the membership fee down the drain.

For affiliate marketing, there is no commitment to the products and services that you promote. You simply get rid of the affiliate link to the products/service on your platform, that’s it.

Reason #4: There is no stigma to fight against

We all know MLM has a bad reputation. Even the people who are doing well in MLM business agree that being in a business with a negative stigma is one of the biggest challenges for them.

As a new MLM recruit, you are on an uphill battle right off the bat.

Although affiliate marketing is not as well-known for everyday people, the good news is, it also doesn’t have a bad rep to come along with it.

People are often very intrigued on how bloggers and content creators make so much money, and affiliate marketing is a big part of that secret.

Reason #5: Don’t have to nag your friends and family to either buy stuff

Let’s face it, we have all been nagged by friends or family who are in MLM business. You bought that $80 eye cream only because you want to support them or stop them messaging you.

One of the biggest benefits of using affiliate marketing to make money is that you only promote products that you love to the audience who are already interested in.

Often, readers come to your website looking for a solution. By providing a solution and sharing your view on the products and services is the way you promote the affiliate products. The more authentic and honest, the better. If you are not good at hard-selling - GOOD, because that is one technique doesn’t work well on affiliate marketing.

Reason #6: No recruitment

Recruiting members to join is one of the more profitable channels for current MLM members. Some companies make recruiting a requirement (which are walking on eggshells of being illegal in many countries, also known as a pyramid scheme), other companies give high incentives on recruitment.

In contrast, another great benefit of affiliate marketing is that you don’t need to recruit anyone to join your team.

Recruitment is simply not part of the equation of the affiliate marketing commission structure.  So that’s one less thing to worry.

Reason #7: No minimal quota to achieve

Many MLM companies require you to achieve a minimal quota per month in order to keep your membership status. For those who struggle to achieve that minimal quota, they often end up purchasing the products themselves.

With the minimal quota requirement, not only does this create pressure but also can get pretty expensive especially for new starters…

Well, this will not be the case for affiliate marketing. It took me over 6 months before I made my first affiliate sale, but I was ok with it. It’s hard enough to start a business with a good foundation and get going. Having the pressure to make money instantly, is the last thing I want.

With affiliate marketing, once it starts gaining momentum, it profits snowballs too.

Reason #8: Simple commission structure, no fees to uplines

Unlike MLM commission structures where your profits get shared by the company and uplines, with affiliate marketing, the commission is simply a split between you and the company who owns the products/services - that’s it.

Reason #9: Investment becomes your own assets

Well, I probably should say, there’s NO investment needed for affiliate marketing. Many influencers made their fortune simply using FREE social media platforms like Instagram, Tiktok or YouTube etc.

But if you choose to have your website (which I strongly advise) as the platform, then it will require some investment. I am talking approx. less than $100.

Over time, the content you created on your site, the audience you gained, and the traffic you built all become your own assets. Regardless of whether you use affiliate marketing or the products you promote, you will always own the assets that you invested in.

Reason #10: Passive income instead of active selling

Finally, affiliate marketing is also being categorised as a type of passive income. There is no active selling involved (which seems to attract many introverts…)

You simply create helpful content. Once it gets out to the right audience on the internet, you could be making money while you are sleeping.
