UPDATE
- Ben Kinney Shared Plans + RE Ideas -
AR MeetUp 10-20-2020
Imagine an exciting presentation - full of news about the technical advances planned for ActiveRain - delivered with enthusiasm by Ben Kinney.
He shared plans for the rebuilding of the AR site - explaining detailed technical changes. Now, he explained, the code was all stacked on top of itself. That means that if one thing goes wrong, everything is subject to not working properly.
The goal is to separate the facets of ActiveRain into "containers" so that if one technical aspect fails that would be the only section disrupted.
In terms of "sections" of AR, Ben discussed goals of cleaning up Groups and non-participatory members. He asked attendees what areas they thought needed attention. He listened carefully and asked questions of those members so he understood. NOTE: Be sure to read Jeffrey Richman post about the MeetUp.
Ben Kinney believes in putting a strong focus on one thing and becoming NUMBER ONE in that field. He believes that AR is positioned to provide the best information for LOCAL insights and news based on knowledge of any of the diverse careers represented on AR. He is confident that each participating member has a deep understanding of his or her market in any of the careers listed at our AR website.
What are the membership categories now?
The presence of these diverse careers adds spice to the Blog posts found on AR.
We learn about each others' jobs when reading posts and enhance the way we do our own jobs.
After discussing the technical side, Ben branched out into advice based on his success in real estate. He talked about what to say at Open Houses and how to help a potential Client by looking at their real estate holdings as part of their financial wealth portfolio - not just a transaction at hand.
Ben recommended books that have boosted his success. The One Thing, The Wealthy Code and Positioning are three of the books he mentioned as significant to him during the MeetUp.
In 2015, Ben published a post on ActiveRain right around the time he was finalizing the purchase of ActiveRain from Zillow. He stated his philosophy in that post and I will quote some of what he said here.
"One philosophy I've employed in my businesses is to take an existing idea and build on it. Some of the ideas we’ve implemented first took root because of something I read on ActiveRain, or some conversation I had with another member. In the spirit of that philosophy, I offer every ounce of my experience to continue to build this awesome community with you.
"A second philosophy my team and I follow is to share everything; this has forced us to learn new things, and adapt new business practices. To me, sharing everything is one of the pillars of ActiveRain. Every day, I see people sharing lessons and insight. You come here to share what you know, and the entire community benefits—so as a member of this community, I say “thank you.”
Another interesting statement in the post referred to AR and his goals as he would be the owner:
"Bob Stewart is returning! Many of you know Bob as the former ActiveRain Community Manager and Trainer. He’ll be a key part of the new focus and energy of ActiveRain.
"We will be investing heavily into ActiveRain University and additional training to make this the best Real Estate Resource online.
"The domain name will also be restored to ActiveRain.com and will no longer be a subdomain of [any other site] ... in the best interest of your content and the site's SEO."
Although moving toward "technological enhancements", Ben reaffirmed his commitment to keep ActiveRain as a community that honors "all brokerage models and all brands no matter how large or small."
The same idea applies to products and services, Ben explained. "... products and services will be judged by our community" which "deserves to know about all products, all services, and all trainings."
Again thanks to Debe Maxwell, CRS who, in addition to both her personal and professional busy schedule, always finds time to keep the Tuesday at 2pm MeetUp thriving with interesting presentations.
Who is coming to delight attendees in the coming weeks? (subject to change)
On October 27th, either Mary Thompson , Appraiser in Georgia or Bob Crane - Forestry focus - will guide the MeetUp. November 3rd, Elyse Berman, PA will share about being a Specialist Pet Friendly Agent. Coming after that to discuss feng shui will be Laura Cerrano and the John Meussner- Mortgage member.
Delightfully, ActiveRain is now a recipient of Ben's mission statement:
All the best - Lynn
