Why is it that when a person receives their real estate license people are so quick to want a piece of your fortune. I mean from local board associations to insurance money you name it and it all costs a pretty penny. From the software that one can use to keep track of clients to the pins you put on your clothes they all cost money. I understand people have to pay for everything they own but be reasonable when pricing things for realtors. Recently our board approved a new suprakey for every member of that association. A suprakey is what realtors use to gain access to homes when showing them to buyers. This new suprakey is not optional but rather mandatory for everyone to upgrade. I don't agree with this, they could have made the new key optional rather than mandatory. The board is going to deactivate all the old keys so if you do not upgrade you are locked out of hundreds of homes in a buyers market. So for once give realtors a break and give us something for free or the choice to upgrade for those who want it.
I just can't believe you aren't made of money to afford all these toys! One of the many things they neglect to tell you before you sign up for your pre-licensing courses is how much money you will most likely spend in the first year of business on fees, dues, lockboxes, keys, the list goes on.
Yeah somehow my broker must have missed telling me the start up costs. How convenient
Thanks Cynthia, I know it is my money and I have learned to not want the latest technology just the one that will work for me
Hey Carol - it is crazy crazy - when i did my taxes in april.......I re-reviewed those expenses and had a major panic attack.............it costs us a lot of money to be 'operational'..........i'm thinking wouldn't it be interesting to have a page or link on our website, listing out expenses........FYO.......we should call it! :-(
Liz, I know my first year in real estate I didn't make that much money and my husband was scared that we would be taxed up the wazoo for it. I went to my tax lady and she said you have more deductions than what I made. I remember telling my husband those are the start-up costs so it won't be bad the next year. Yeah right! People don't understand how expensive it is to be in real estate so people better be serious about it.
