Protecting your home in these weird times!

One of the crimes most frequently reported to the police are residential burglary and also also people stealing packages from amazon, fed ex and UPS.

Tips on safeguarding your home are some of these:

Buy a ring doorbell that shows who is at you front door

Make sure all exterior doors have good locks and keep lock

Secure sliding glass doors with bars (even a broom handle in door track)

Make sure all your windows have good locks and keep lock

Make sure you even leave a porch light on at nite.

Trim any bushes and trees that hide doors or windows.

Keep a record of each of your room, take a picture and keep in safe place

If you park your car outside, KEEP LOCK!

Join a neighborhood watch.

Tell your neighbors also to watch for activity of strangers in the area.

Closer to Christmas time the more packages are coming and some delivery company are not even ringing the door bell, so if you know of a delivery coming keep a eye for.

Such good tips Will. It's unfortunate that these type of crimes can happen right on your own doorsteps...

Hi Will- excellent tips all year but especially now with the holidays around. We have the Ring doorbell and we also have smart lights that we set to turn on at certain times, including our porch light. I also have cameras on the driveway and back yard. Whew!!!

Great advice.  On a side note, we had a delivery in the neighborhood that was kind of interesting.  The delivery guy parked right in front of my house and I watched him deliver three packages to three different homes.  All three houses were supposed to get one of the packages, but none of the three packages was delivered to the right house!  It was the strangest thing.  He must be working way too hard or enjoying one of those adult gummy bears.

Good morning Will Hamm - your suggestion about Ring doorbells and cameras is a good one.  I have them on both of our houses.

I want a motion activated flood light for my back yard.  Beyond that, my safety is "locked up" so to speak.

A ring doorbell is on my list - there are so many questions though - do I need a solar charger for it?  an extra camera - all those things I could buy that I got totally confused.

Dear Will,

As a fan of dark nights, I do not find porch lights useful. They only light the way for burglars, who usually come during the day anyhow, when they can see even more. If anything, get a motion sensor light, so the lamps do not have to be keeping your neighbors awake all night. Of course, some are so sensitive, they are set off by moths.
