By
Managing Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty PB00068179

Agustín Cosme Damián de Iturbide y Arámburu was born in Morelia, Mexico back in 1783 to Joaquin.  In his teens, he joined the royalist army, commissioned as a second lieutenant, by 1896 he was promoted to full lieutenant.  During the early 19th century political unrest in New Spain, he became a feared foe, his nickname was “The Iron Dragon”.

He was successful in many engagements during the war, however after the war he was accused of cruelty and corruption.  In 1820, he switched sides and fought for the Spanish monarchy.  For him switching sides eventually he was caught and executed in 1824, he was 40.

What you may not know about Agustín is that he is known as Augustine of Mexico, taking control in Mexico City in 1821.  He was the first Constitutional Emperor of Mexico, he also designed the Mexican Flag.

Hello James - another name and story from history that I missed.  Honestly, even though I have commented similarly in the past, I didn't sleep through history class.

Hi James,

The Iron Dragon's long given name reminded me of Mandy Patinkin in the Princess Bride..."My name is Inigo Montoya...you killed my father...prepare to die!"  Comedy aside,  history is very interesting.  Thank you.

That kind of sounds like a movie that I just watched with Jet Li where two masters thought he was serving them, but he had no master and destroyed them both, haha.

Good morning, James... the sad fate of many a political prisoner. But no doubt, he led an exciting life, albeit a short one.

Good morning James. Without a clue from the first sentence. And the name had me thinking I was at the wrong post. You got me on this one. Enjoy your day!

James,

I had no idea of this man's existence, let alone his accomplishments.  In the picture that Barbara Todaro shared, his uniform is simial to something you would see on Napoleon.  Happy Sunday.  A

Dear James,

It would be great, if his dad had indeed given birth, but I am sure, he had a mom as well. Too bad he involved civilians in his military conflicts, especially women & children. But then, innocents are always the victims of wars.

I am sure a lot of politicians do not mind calling themselves King of something.  In China the aristocrat's decendends do not have the same prestige as they have in Europe. When asked they will tell you.

king of Mexico
