Apartments: Living On The Ground Floor

When looking for a new apartment, you definitely have a list of what you are looking for and what you are not looking for. Some criteria can be inflexible (such as maximum price), but there are always secondary criteria that are more flexible.

The floor on which will be the apartment where you are going to live with your family, is probably in this category. There are advantages and disadvantages for each floor, especially for the ground floor.

We went to Ebbets Field Apartments, a housing complex, which sits on the former baseball field of the Brooklyn Dodgers and spoke with its housing professionals. So, in this article, we will share the advantages and disadvantages of living in an apartment on the ground floor.

Everyone wants to live on the ground floor

From our visit to Ebbets Field Apartments, we found out that one of the biggest benefits of living on the ground floor is that they often have a garden or patio. The outdoor space can blind some of the downsides of the apartment. But you don't just enjoy eating out and gardening in containers, it's also great to have an outdoor space to paint furniture or do other DIY projects.

Moreover, there are no neighbors below you, so you don't have to worry about disturbing a neighbor with the noise you are making while walking. This is especially important if you have children who run, stomp, or dance.

Goodbye stairs!

Living on the ground floor reduces the number of steps to climb. This is especially important when you carry out groceries or when moving with a stroller in tow. Housing experts from the housing complex Ebbets Field Apartments, located on the western edge of Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhoodindicate that this is also good when older people came to visit. It's also easier to get out quickly to take out the trash, while residents on other floors generally wait until tasks pile up.

Ebbets Field Apartments housing experts also indicate that being on the ground floor offers cooler temperatures. This is extremely important in summertime. Everyone in the buildings has a window air conditioner or two, but it still stays cooler downstairs. Not only do we feel more comfortable on summer days, we also save a bit on our energy bill.

But, not everything is perfect

If your apartment faces the street, like most of those on a ground floor, you will probably want to cover your windows with blinds or curtains to prevent everyone from seeing your overflowing basket or, worse, watching you sleep.

You will be closer to the sounds and smells of the street, car alarms, garbage cans, garbage trucks, people walking, among others.

Experts from the housing complex Ebbets Field Apartments, indicate that first floor apartments may be easier to break since the windows are at street level. Unless we are at home, we should not leave the windows open. Despite this, being so close to the street and in full view of onlookers, is less likely that thieves will decide to enter. In this regard, it is important to mention that Ebbets Field Apartments takes pride in providing all residents with high standards of service, 24 hour security, onsite maintenance and porter staff.
