Life often gets more complicated than it should be and the ability to find a little humor is a wonderful thing.
I am thankful for being able to find some humor in most things, including a lot of challenging situations life presents us. If you can find even a little humor in things it helps.
I remember one instance when our family was going through a very difficult time. It was a legitimate family crisis. One of my step-sons had experienced a psychotic attack his senior year in high school and ended up in the mental ward of a hospital out of town. My husband, his ex-wife, one of my step-daughters and I were all in the same car driving to the hospital to get updated on what was going on and what would be the course of treatment. For his ex-wife and me to even be in the same car was uncomfortable. To be there under those circumstances was very tense. It was a very difficult situation, as you can imagine.
My step-daughter was driving. She has a tendency to drive too fast and tailgate if she can't pass the car in front of her. This made everyone in the car (except her I guess) even more tense. I spoke up and said, "Lana, we would all appreciate it if you don't give the guy in front of us an enema." Everyone laughed. She did back off and I think everyone relaxed just a little. It wasn't much, but it did help lighten the moment and the day.
It's not always easy, but if you can find a little humor in situations it can help. I am thankful for being able to do that.
There's always a place for humor in my world. I think you and I would get along famously.

I can votch for that Chris Ann Cleland . Carol is a crack up!
Your story is a good one. And yes, humor can ease tensions pretty quickly. I remember, long ago, arguing with a former beau. He interrupted my frustrating rant with this, spoken in old west style, " You sure are beautiful when you're all riled up, ma'am." He stopped me cold and we had a good laugh. What's interesting is that I have no idea what we were upset over, but I do remember his great use of humor. It's a powerful tool. Plus, life is just a heck of alot more fun with a lot of laughter. There are a few people who need to remove the stick, if you know what I mean. :)

Hi Grant Schneider
My husband's ex-wife offered up many tense situations in which to find humor. LOL
Hi Wayne Martin
You're sure right about that. And, I did love that Art Linkletter show with kids.
Thank you Michael Jacobs
I appreciate the many Pondertunities you offer up. Humor and Pondertunities. A great combination.

Hi Will Hamm
Ex-wives offer up many opportunities to search for humor, don't they? I'm glad I'm not an ex-wife. LOL

Morning Carol.
I've been there, seen that. On occasion, I do the same. Not a pretty sight.

Humor helps make a point without attacking when it is a simple observation put out there in a "hadn't looked at it that way before" twist. Thank you Carol Williams !

Hi James Dray
You know what else? She hired me to sell her home when she moved! LOL
Hey Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker
My comment to James reminded me that she also hired me to sell her home when she moved. How brave was that for me to take that listing?

Making a point without attacking is what humor can do. I could have yelled "Slow down and Stop tailgating". That would have only created more tension, wouldn't it?
I agree that humor is a good trait to have, but caution to the wind. Sometimes what one may perceive as humor isn't funny to somebody else. I've had that happen twice and I was totally caught unaware by the "not so funny" reaction to my "of course it's funny" attempt at humor.
Great story, Carol.
It is hard to imagine the level of apprehension and tension on that road trip. I am sure that any lowering of the tension level was much appreciated by all.
