Clayton Jacobson II was born in Portland, Oregon back in 1933 to Clayton and Sarah. In the mid 1940’ the family moved to Southern California. He graduated from Manual Arts High School and Los Angeles City College where he studied physics and engineering. In his spare time, he was into bodybuilding and street racing.
After graduation, he joined the Marine Corps Reserve where he learned drafting and jet engine technology. He worked at a wholesale food distributor. He didn’t last long when he left the food business to work for his wife’s father at a savings and loan. Later he moved to Palos Verdes, California. He was an accomplished motorcycle racer. One day while riding his motorcycle in the Mojave Desert, he had an idea. As the say the rest is history. Using his drafting skills he designed something that made him go down in the history books, the jet ski.
