“Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.”
It may seem that the way to get someone to take your position or to see something from your point of view is to be overbearing, emphatic, or harsh in driving your point home. However, that is another example of how the world works. Yes, that may be what political ads do, or how some people try to make a statement on social media but you have other options.
When you speak to people use patience, and sometimes that means showing them with your actions what needs to be done. Be kind, loving, peaceful, joyful in your communication when your trying to win someone over. Part of the idea of this verse is that you really need these when you are going beyond your normal comfort zone of dealing with people in prominence or even dealing with people that are potential opponents of yours.
Also people that are different then you or doing things that you would consider evil this is another reminder that those persons situation can totally be turned around and used for good by God so see yourself as often as possible speaking to a child of God in each interaction.
