Mistakes That Could Jeopardize Your Winter Home Sale

It may be cold outside, but the real estate market is heating up, with this year poised to be one of the best winter selling seasons in recent history.

But just because this winter is set to be a seller-friendly market doesn’t mean that selling your home is a given. There are plenty of things that could prevent you from successfully selling your home during the winter months.

But what, exactly, are those things?

recent article from realtor.com outlined the most common mistakes homeowners make that could prevent them from selling their homes this winter, including:

  • Skipping snow shoveling. Buyers don’t want to trudge through a full foot of snow to make it to your front door. If you’re hit with winter weather, make sure to shovel the snow and create a clear path from the street to your front door.
  • Lowering the heat. You want your home to feel warm and inviting to potential buyers. If they walk into your home and it’s just as cold inside as it is outside, it can turn them off to your property. Before you leave your house, make sure to crank up the heat to around 70 degrees to make it more pleasant for buyers who come by to tour your house.
  • Using outdated listing photos. If you’re trying to sell a home in December, you don’t want to use listing photos that were clearly taken in the peak of summer. When you list your home, make sure you use seasonally accurate photos—and if you’re listing in the winter, make sure you spruce up your property to make it look extra cozy and festive.

The Takeaway:

So, what does this mean for you? If you’re thinking about selling your home this winter, it’s important to understand the most common mistakes sellers make in the colder months—so you can avoid those mistakes and successfully sell your home
