I have really enjoyed ActiveRain over the years for several reasons. Here are a few of my reflections.
The Memories
I really like going back and looking through my old blogs. It reminds me of where I started and how different I am today. My first blog showcased my first listing in August of 2010. It was very simple, to say the least, but just looking at that blog reminds me of so much. First, that death in a home can be a real challenge. Second, a house can take a long time to sell. Third, even though the house looks great, the pest inspector may find dry rot, termites and Borer Beatles under the house. Borer Beatles suck! We had to tent the home and fumigate it, then replace all the wood that the beetles damaged. All this, and more, on my FIRST transaction. I really wondered if I was cut out for this business. Ten years later and I am still here. Each blog not only memorializes the past, but are reminders of my evolution over the years.
Education
There is very little available, like ActiveRain, for an agent to find great information. I have found helpful information about utilizing social media, effective marketing, running a successful open house, proper staging and so much more. Just recently, I asked in the Question and Answer section if it was possible to delete old MLS pictures. In just a matter of hours, I had over 30 thoughtful and helpful answers. And there is nothing like writing a blog that will appear in front of all your real estate peers to focus your writing and make sure you do proper due diligence.
Help
We have an exodus of Californians relocating and looking for the perfect retirement areas across the country. ActiveRain has been a great networking source to help my clients make informed decisions about their move. Recently, I needed some information for clients moving to Carsbad, CA. I picked up the phone and called Jeff Dowler, CRS who was happy to help. I have needed help in Oregon, Arizona, Idaho and Arkansas in the recent months too and the AR network was a big help. ActiveRain is a great source when you are looking for very localized information. BTW-if you know someone in Fostoria, Ohio that is in construction or real estate sales, I have a house there that I need help getting ready for the market and sold!
Referrals
I really never thought of as a source of referrals, but Maria Gilda Racelis changed that kind of thinking. She asked for a referral in Elk Grove and I did not even have time to respond before my friends on ActiveRain had mentioned me several times. It all worked out well and I have a new perspective regarding ActiveRain. I hope to return the favor one day.
Friends
After spending so much time blogging, writing comments, asking and answering questions and participating in some of the Zoom meetings, you make friends. I really think this is the real power behind the ActiveRain community. I feel like I can pick up the phone and call agents across the country and be welcomed like a friend. Actually, I know if I end up in just about any part of this country, I will have a friend that I can reach out to for lunch or maybe even a memorable hike, right Brian England ?
This is just the tip of the ActiveRain iceburg and the thoughts from a casual member. I can only imagine the benefits if I ever truly get committed. Thank you to all my ActiveRain friends for being so open and accepting. It really does mean a lot to be a part of this community.
