Do you wish you could motivate yourself to be productive, get your work from home done, complete your daily tasks, and achieve your goals? In this article, learn why self-motivation may be so hard for people and how to change that.
Why Is Self-Motivation So Difficult For People?
I think being self-motivated is so difficult for some people because they don’t feel desperate enough to change their situation.
For example, when I first started my law firm it was during the Great Recession of 2008 and I was pretty desperate. I graduated from law school in 2008 and law firms weren’t really hiring at the time. I was lucky to find a job, but it was only paying about $30,000. With the amount of student loans and medical debt I owed, I HAD to find another way.
My back was literally up against the wall and failure wasn’t an option (especially since I fought so hard to graduate law school and pass the bar).
However, when it comes to losing weight, I haven’t been anywhere nearly as motivated. I think the reason is my “why” isn’t strong enough to get out there and do what I need to do to have the body I want. Maybe if my doctor told me my health and life depended on it, I would be MUCH MORE self-motivated.
Why Does Living Alone Make Self-Motivation Even More Difficult?
Living alone may make self-motivation even more difficult because you don’t have someone to hold you accountable or to ask you about what progress you’ve made. However, I personally think living alone can be a good thing to help you be more productive. This is because you have fewer distractions or people to interrupt your work.
So if you live alone, turn that around into a positive thing to help you achieve your goals even faster.
How Can Those Who Live Alone Find Ways To Motivate Themselves?
One of the best ways to motivate yourself is to actually sit down and plan out your day. Pull out your daily planner and write down what you're going to do and what time you’re going to do it. The Best Tip For Motivating Yourself And Staying Productive
My best tips for motivating yourself and staying productive is to write down your goals and make them specific. It has been statistically proven that those who wrote down their goals were 42% more likely to accomplish significantly more than those who did not write down their goals.
So write down your goals and actually plan out when you want to achieve that goal. Then plan out the small steps you’re going to take to reach that goal. It’s very important to stay organized when trying to get tasks done, so I would also invest in a daily goal planner. This way you know exactly what tasks you need to accomplish every day to get you closer to your goals.
Finally, keep your “to-do" list short. The more things you have on your “to-do” list the easier it is to feel overwhelmed or like a failure if you don’t check everything off. So I recommend you aim to complete your 3 most important tasks in a day…but no more than that.
