Pearl Harbor 79 Years Ago - Has the Giant Fallen Asleep Again?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Mike McCann - Broker, Mach1 Realty Farmland Broker-Auctioneer Serving Rural Nebraska

December 7, 2020...79 years after Pearl Harbor and the lessons learned and sacrifices made not only at Pearl Harbor, but across the world and our nation have Faded.Capt. Dusty Lukasiewicz - We Love You Dusty! Semper Fi!

Once again, I fear America has fallen asleep.

May we never forget Pearl Harbor.

Or the millions of people who died during WWII both in battle and as a result of hatred and tyranny. As well as those who have sacrificed for many generations defending our country.

Is the duty of each of us to remind the younger generations of what happened. We can no longer rely on the school and college systems to teach our youth and young adults what happened over the past 250+ years.

We have lost family members who gave it all for us... for you and for me...and those sacrifices will not have been in vain

I give my word to those who defended our country's freedom in the 1940's including those who made the ultimate sacrifice at Pearl Harbor and beyond to those who died needlessly in concentration camps:

This MAN, most of my friends, and millions upon millions of others are prepared to defend our freedom once again...and make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary!

Make no mistake if you are reading my words here...this is not idle talk from an old man...we are ready, willing, and able.

We have the resources and ability to defend our Constitution from the enemies that want to destroy us....both domestic and foreign.

The sleeping giant is restless and is about to awake again.

Sad to say, I don't think much history is being taught in schools these days, Mike. I suspect many younger people have no idea about Pearl Harbor or what it meant.

Hi Nina Hollander From what I gather...what is being taught is entirely different than what we learned...not being taught at all.  Thank you for stopping by.

Hi Mike.
I will never forget what our parent's generation fought for. Sadly, I think the generations behind us don't have a grasp on the significant consequences of NOT defending our freedoms. It's important to understand history.

Great post, and thank you for stating some of things people are afraid to say out loud---and you even put it out there for all of us, right in public!!  May we always remember and teach our children and our children's children.

It's a sad day when somecome can publicly write that our schools are not teaching our children many things they need to know.

As far as WWII, my kids are knowledgeable not because they were taught anything, but because both my parents fought in the war. My mother, in particular, was very good about explaining events to her grandchildren.

As it's said, things forgotten are repeated.

Mike, Thank you for saying what needs to be said.  The country again appears to be at a crossroads.

Hi Mike- your post says it all. My father and uncle were in WWII. My dad was in the Army Air Corps as a photographer. Two of my cousins were in Vietnam. I lost some school friends to that war. Larry was in the Air Force and flew F-4s and by the time he'd finished his pilot training, Vietnam was winding down. We have a good friend who was in the Army in Nam and lay on the jungle floor after being shot in the back. He had to play dead while the VC had their lunch just a few feet away from him.

I stand with you Mike.

And you're right...history may be being taught in school but it has been altered and "faked" to suit the needs of others.

I wish that more Veterans would be enlisted to talk with our children today to let them know that war is not a video game.

I think 2020 has distracted us from Pearl Harbor but not made us totally forget. I have faith in that. Be well and blessed, Mike!

I agree with your post and will join you and others who believe in our Constitution.

I'm Hawaiian, so, our family will never forget Pearl Harbor or the sacrifices made during all the wars and conflicts our nation has endured.

I taught my children and now my grandchildren what schools and educators are not teaching about our nation's history, the good, the bad and the ugly, however, the USA is a noble Nation under God and I'm grateful to be an American. Courageous post and I'll stand with you, anytime.

I do think it is up to all of us to share our history, including Pearl Harbor and WWII. I don't have any idea what is being taught in schools these days but I wouldn't be surprised if the history lessons being taught are much different than they were when many of us were in school.

Thank you all for the comments.  I have one concern here and at other places I made similar posts. Almost all are supporting comments and almost all, by a wide wide margin, are from folks who did learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of history and DO Remember. IE: Over the age of 40.

Hi Mike,

My father-in-law was in the second wave of Omaha Beach and earned a bronze star.  He had a lot of memorabilia that he shared with my youngest son including photo albums that journaled his progress to Germany.  Guess what, my son became a Marine.  It is so important for us to share history with our loved ones so it can be passed down.

History is no longer on the agenda for the educational system

What they do teach is slanted to a negative look at America not the true picture of the greatest country in the world.  I dont understand it

Thank you for this Post I hope it can reach some people enough to remember the past so we dont let it happen again.
