Good morning, Kathy... what a great idea and tradition from Larry's side of the family. Always interesting to hear how different families have their special little traditions.

Good Morning Kathy... it's a great way to have some help in putting away the ornaments while the fun and excitement await!

That is a very interesting idea.  I remember around the time that I was starting to think that Santa wasn't real, my Mom had one of her sisters set everything up while we were at midnight Mass.  I remember being so confused since Mom and Dad were both with me so how could they have set everything up for Santa, haha.

Good morning Kathy. If my grandson were around the tree would be on the ground and he would be opening the gift well in advance of Christmas. Novel idea. Enjoy your day!

Good morning, Kathy Streib that's a wonderful family tradition.... I have one with my family, too...

I buy a few hundred dollars worth of scratch tickets and after all the presents are opened, we sit at the island (seats 10) and I pass out tickets to each family member....plus a coin to scratch them.... 

you can hear a pin drop ....there is total silence....I think it's the funniest thing....every the most boisterous of them are silent... they even breath quietly!!!!

and there's always at least one winner, but usually several....

That's a fun idea! I hadn't ever heard of a plunder party..

That is certainly different and a way to get all the needles off a live tree before taking it out of the  house

Hello Kathy - I have never heard of a "Plunder Party" - is it an exclusively Streib family creation or does it have some other origination?  Now, you have me pondering plunder parties.  Preposterous.  Purposeful.  Perhaps. . .

That seems like a fun tradition.  It's such a shame that 2/3 kids are now young adults and no real traditions like this one have been started.

I think that would be a fun tradition and also a great way to undecorate a tree which is never as much fun as decorating one.

I've heard of all kinds of parties but never a plunder party. I love how the anticipation for the children carried through to after the main event.  It also gives me a whole 'nother reason to buy stuff for myself.  LOL

Even the name, "plunder party," adds to the fun. 

I don't think it's silly. It's fun. Plus, it can be a bit meloncholy to take down the tree - especially if you're nutty for Christmas, like I am. This way, you get a special little treat - something to look forward to. 

Kathy Streib I do that every year - I buy myself what I really wanted - but I do not put up a tree anymore - Just put out my elves and stuff animals
