Botanic Wonderland Holiday Nights in the Garden 2020  San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas

I think most everyone enjoys holiday lights at this time of year. And the San Diego Botanic Garden offers a very special place to enjoy them.

The Botanic Wonderland Holiday Nights in the Garden at the San Diego Botanic Gardens in Encinitas, is now open on select nights.

As always you will be delighted with areas of the gardens adorned with numerous lights and holiday decorations!

The San Diego Botanic Garden is beautiful any time of the year. But it’s especially magical during the holiday season. This year you’ll find displays at the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory, the Rainforest and Waterfall, the Lawn Garden and other areas of the 37-acre gardens.

You’ll enjoy live wandering musicians and carolers, too! Food trucks will be available.

Here’s the schedule – visiting hours are 5 to 8:30 pm:

December 9 & 10

December 12 & 13

December 16 – 23

December 26 - 30

In order to keep everyone safe there are limited tickets per time period - reservations are required for entry into the gardens in 30-minute intervals. All Covid-19 government guidelines are to be followed - masks must be worn by all for entry (over the age of 2), and social distancing is required at all times. Bring sanitizer, too.

I clearly remember a visit to the Garden of Lights (the former name) a number of years ago - it was a special place to visit over the holidays, and the lights and gardens were truly magical.

Here’s the information on tickets, with a variety of ticket options. Some days and time intervals can be expected to sell out quickly.

If you haven’t visited this botanic treasure in Encinitas, North San Diego County, the Botanic Wonderland Holiday Nights in the Garden 2020 could be the perfect time.

We haven't visited this particular display for some time, but it's a beautiful garden and the lights were magical!

Hi Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker

I've read about your gardens a number of times and no doubt it would be a pleasure to roam them, at any time but especially during the holidays!

Hi Sharon Lee

I love visiting botanical gardens and have seen a few over the years that were pretty impressive. It's even better when they are lit up for the holidays!

Too bad Rocky Dickerson  It's an impressive venue. The gardens are most impressive and they have all kinds of events during the year (well, normally they do).

Morning Jeff.

Would love to see it, but it is a little outside of my travel zone.

This sounds lovely, Jeff. I love most anything to do with holiday lights. I used to travel on business to San Diego just about every month for several years, but for some reason never saw the Botanical Gardens, unless they came about after 1976.

Jeff Dowler, CRS - The fact that you're spreading the good word about the Botanical Gardens Wonderland Holiday Nights is motivation for people to get out to experience all the beauty and celebrations of the Christmas season. So many people are long overdue for something like this. May you and your family be happy and live in joy.

We did spend several wonderful hours at the garden when we were out there.  So much to see and it would have to be spectacular decorated for the season

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat

We haven't been for years but generally their events are very popular. This year with COVID they are limiting attendance, but my guess it will sell out anyhow.

Hi Nina Hollander

I always enjoy the lights and decorations, and this year there seem to be more...perhaps because of the pandemic.

I checked out the history and the Garden opened its doors in 1970...sorry you never saw it.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP . I hope their event WILL be a success. You're right - people ARE looking for things to enjoy, and it's a bit harder here now since they just implemented more restrictions!

Hi Jeff,
That sounds amazing. The closest thing that I know of in my region is Manito Park in Spokane. They didn't allow any visitors inside the greenhouse this year which was a disappointment.

Dear Jeff,

Sounds absolutely lovely. Zoolights at the Smithsonian Zoo are popular around here.
