Alec John Jeffreys was born in Oxford, England back in 1950. In 1956, the family moved to Luton, Bedfordshire. He attended the Luton Grammar School then Luton Sixth Form College. He won a scholarship to Merton College, Oxford graduating with first-class honor in biochemistry in 1971.
He received his Doctor of Philosophy on the mitochondria of cultured mammalian cells, he did his postgraduate at the Genetics Laboratory at the University of Oxford. In 1994, he was Knighted for his services to genetics and to science and technology. Now, some of you may want to know why he was Knighted.
