This is an entry into Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker and Carol Williams ' Holiday Fun and Cheer Challenge. Specifically, this is a post about my need for music at Christmas time.
And no, I am not a fan of the radio stations that start playing 24 x 7 Christmas music BEFORE Thanksgiving, or even on Thanksgiving. But I do feel that, no matter what the season brings in terms of family get-togethers, gifts, and the like, that Christmas simply must be full of my favorite music.
I love many different types of Christmas music and prefer to listen to different ones as the season goes on.
For example, when I write Christmas cards right around Thanksgiving, the music goes on. And when I make my Christmas cookies, the music goes on. And when the Christmas tree is being decorated, and/or is in the corner twinkling away, yes, you guessed it. The Christmas music goes on.
This year I thought I wouldn't be able to play my CDs. When we moved, we gave away our TV (we only have one). Upon arrival in our new home, we purchased a "Smart TV" only to find that our old Bose Entertainment system and the TV didn't talk to each other. And the new entertainment systems didn't have a way to play CDs. Sigh.
After lots of hours hunting for a brand new multiple-CD player and not finding one, the search for an old-time player began. I looked on multiple sites and finally found something that would work. I purchased it, it arrived, and voila - I can listen to all my Christmas CDs again..
By the way, my love of seasonal music doesn't end with my CDs. There is also my piano. Many years ago my dad, who worked at Reader's Digest for many years, brought home a Reader's Digest Christmas Carol book. Easy to play favorites. So needless to say, I can be found from time to time with fingers on the keys, tapping out some of my favorites.
And the two songs I love most of all at this time of the year are "Silent Night" and "Little Drummer Boy." And while I often enjoy the original arrangements, I am certainly open to new ones. So I leave you with this version of the latter, which I heard for the first time today. If the drums at the beginning seem loud, hang in there - they start singing around the one minute mark.
Enjoy!
