I was chatting with a friend the other day and she asked me what paint colors are the most popular among my clients. I didn't have to stop and think about that question, it was an easy answer, Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. Then of course she asked me why that color was so popular. I told her that first off, it's a neutral gray and people love their gray paint colors. And secondly, I told her that it's a warmer toned gray. For some reason, most clients I work with tend to favor warmer-toned paint colors.
I have no problem at all with warmer-toned paint colors. They are cozy and inviting and warm up a room beautifully. However, that conversation got me thinking, what about cool-toned paint colors? Surely they are just as beautiful and they can provide a sense of calmness and relaxation. (one of the reasons why I tend to suggest cool tones for bedrooms and bathrooms).
I decided to pull out my paint deck and create a list of my favorite cool-toned paint colors. I like lists #1 and #2 it will be helpful to have when helping clients going forward.
Here are my top 5 favorite cool-toned paint colors.
I like Passive because it's a so-called chameleon of a paint color. It has undertones of blue, green, and violet. What undertone you see is dependant on the elements in your home. For example, the fixed elements and decor.
2. Benjamin Moore Moonshine
I love BM Moonshine. I personally painted my basement this color and I find it to look like a neutral gray most of the time. It has a slightly green blue undertone that shows itself every so often but it is quite subtle and not overpowering at all.
3. Sherwin Williams Silver Strand
Another gorgeous cool-toned gray. This one has blue/green undertones. It's not super light but it's not dark, more of a mid-toned paint color.
4. Benjamin Moore Metropolitan
This cool-toned gray screams sophistication. It is another mid-toned color that will provide the perfect neutral backdrop for your decor.
Stonington Gray is one of Benjamin Moore's best-selling paint colors. This is a great cool-toned paint color option. This is a mid-toned gray that has a bit of a blue undertoned. It's a soft a subtle paint color that is an absolute classic.
I think cool tone paint colors don't get enough love. They are equally as beautiful as paint colors with warm tones. I will assume that the thing that people are hesitant about when it comes to cool tones, is that they are afraid of it feeling cold or stark. The best way to know how a paint color will feel in a room is by swatching it. Swatching paint colors is a non-negotiable in my book. It really is the only way to tell if you will love or hate a color.
