An Island of Contentment!

After reading Myrl Jeffcoat post about a Normal Day I realized that's how I've been feeling a lot this past few months. Here's the comment I left on Myrl's post. The bold section was Myrl's comment to someone else.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat I know that feeling - comforting to just have an unusually casual, unadorned, unadulterated normal day!  It almost felt like some kind of luxury! Appreciating the little moments and things.......is almost like a little island of contentment lately.

This is exactly how I feel  now - it's almost like a little island of contentment!

The photo is at the top of Shaw Butte, the mountain behind our home - My little island of contentment! The 'place' I am in now is how I felt while out hiking every day. Coming down the hill and looking out over all the beauty was an amazing AWE inspiring feeling....contentment.

Day in and day out I've been content to enjoy whatever is right in front of me, whether it was a new recipe, a pretty bird in the yard, a call from a friend, watching a sunset, reading all the December Holiday Challenge posts, spending time with a friend or two, whatever! It's all perfect!

There is a sense of peace around me all the time lately.   And in a way there  really always has been, but it's different now.  Gone is the desire to go here, go there, accomplish this, that and the other thing!  It's interesting because I'm busier than ever but I don't feel crammed or rushed. I simply feel peaceful.  And I'm enjoying and having so much fun on my island. I appreciate it all.

Hi Hannah Williams living in a condo certainly has it's benefits!  When I lived in snow country I loved snowy days.  Not the shoveling part, just the snow!

Hello Anna - as I commented to Myrl on her post, there is something rather extraordinary about "normal".  Why not, celebrate "normal".  Definitely, why not?

Finding the island of contentment is the first success.  STAYING on the island of contentment another matter entirely.  That takes real intent.

Anna- I love your post and Myrl Jeffcoat I related to what you said...Gone is the desire to go here, go there."   I have always been self-entertaining and thoroughly enjoy my "me" time. Larry and I have found ways to be out and be safe. We out to dinner or lunch but we make it a point to go when it won't be crowded.

Hi Chris Ann Cleland with practice staying on ones contentment island becomes natural.  Not as easy for some but with mindfulness it will become easier.  I just wrote another post about that very topic recently.

Hi Kathy Streib you and I are in the same boat.  I appreciate me time as well and it's a daily habit. Ahhhhhh.  We've done the same thing, appreciate and support our favorite places when we know they won't be busy at all.

Hi Anna,
And "Island of Contentment". What a great way to express slowing down and just appreciating everything around us, in spite of some challenging circumstances.  I feel the same right now. Life seems simpler and unrushed. I like it.  When things open back up (I'm in a blue state you know), I will enjoy getting out more and traveling. However, for now, I'm content to be at my little retreat.    Have another awesome day on your Island of Contentment.  😊

Hi Carol Williams interesting awareness and comparison for me! Oddly things haven't 'slowed' down, quite the opposite but it still feels relaxing, slower and very content.  I like this Island of Contentment!   Stay cosy in your lovely retreat. I sure hope they open your state back up soon.
