If nothing else, I'm organized! In Canada, we never know what kind of weather will hit us at Christmas so I've always been one to get our celebratory meals in order: menus created, shopping lists prepared, pantry & fridge stocked, etc. This year was no different even with the Covid restrictions in place and only my Sweetie heading into the shops, armed and ready with my extensive lists created for each shop.
It will be a small Christmas gathering this year with only 3 people in our bubble. Everyone else will be seen curbside only!
I created menus for Christmas Eve Buffet, Christmas morning, Christmas Dinner, the 28th being my Sweetie's Birthday, and New Year's Eve because we're not leaving the house again until well into the New Year!
Christmas Eve wouldn't be the 24th without our family's baked Ham as the centre piece on the buffet. This year it will be an Oven Roasted Cranberry Dijon Glazed Ham
Of course, as per my earlier blog post, we'll have individual French Canadian Tourtierres. Everyone enjoys picking at a fresh Shrimp Ring with spicy Cocktail Sauce and this year we're also trying out Mac & Cheese Lobster Balls. It wouldn't be a buffet without assorted cheeses & crackers too. There'll be singing of carols and this year, thanks to Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker we'll be watching the movie The Bishop's Wife.
Before retiring to bed, we'll cut some of the ham into strips for the Colourful Ham Strata for Christmas Breakfast. We have ALWAYS had traditional Eggs Benedict so this will be something different for only the 3 of us. "Chock-full of eggs, bread, peppers, onions and cheese, the eye-opener makes an ideal contribution to brunch buffets and is a great way to start the day."
Anyone who knows me, understands I do not enjoy turkey but my Mother and my Sweetie love it. They will be having a Herb Crusted Turkey Breast complete with Dressing, and all the fixings. I will have Crab and Shrimp Stuffed Shells in a Sherry Cream Sauce
Of course, the traditional Plum Pudding will be set alight with Brandy for afters and mini Mince Pies with Rum Butter, my fave.
December 28th is my Sweetie's Birthday and I was inspired by Jamie Oliver's Festive Feast of Gravadlax (beet horseradish vodka dill cured Salmon) with Rye Bread Scones.
With that we'll have our Grey Goose Dirty Vodka Martini Dip - YUM! And possibly a Baked Brie too which he loves. Weather permitting, we'll nibble at this outdoors in front of a roaring fire with glasses of spiced Vodka!
During the week, we'll be preparing the labour intensive work on our New Year's Eve dinner of Peking Duck - a first for us to try making ourselves so fingers crossed. We found the Asian Pancakes so no worries about having to make them paper thin!
I hope you enjoyed looking at the different recipes and would love to know if you try any yourselves!
Together we can rejoice in saying goodbye to 2020!
