Michael Johnson.

Michael Johnson was born in Framingham, Massachusetts back around 1723.  He worked as a sailor on a whaler spending much of his time at sea.  He also found work among the docks along the Atlantic seaboard.

In 1768, British soldiers were sent to Boston to control growing colonial unrest.  Instead of controlling the Americans, their presence served to further inflame them.  On March 5, 1770 according to reports he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.   For you see Michael Johnson was an alias for Crispus Attucks, the first person killed in the Boston Massacre.  Therefore, he was the first American and an African-American killed in the American Revolution.  It is believed he took the alias because he was an escaped slave according to what I’ve read.

Good morning James,

As Crispus Attucks, I know the name from a book I read.

Riots even today end in unhappy endings.

Now that's a first I would not want to lay claim to... being the first killed in a war James Dray .  I wonder why they chose him, was he acting revolutionary?

I know a family who traced their ancestry that the loyalist ancesters left Boston for Ontario to escape the Boston unrest. Some how the decendents walked back to Detroit and bacame Americans again.

It is so hard to avoid the irony in the fact that the first person do die in our Revolutionary fight for freedom was an escaped slave.
