Ask An Ambassador: How Often Should You Post?

Is there only one way for blogging to generate business?

Of course not, but what works for one may not work for another.

There's a need to be authentic, to find what works for YOUR local market and what brings you the type of business you WANT to work.

So let's say you understand your target market and you're ready to sit down at the keyboard, how often do you need to post?

Like many questions in Life, the answer is "it depends".

How many others are competing for the same target market?

If I target Homes For Sale In Cincinnati, I'm going to need TONS of blog posts to compete with the big gorillas of syndication.

If I target Patio Homes for sale in Cincinnati, I'm not going to need massive amount of posts to start getting found.  There's a lot less competition and they're not spending millions of dollars in marketing to take over Page 1.

If I target a particular subdivision such as Heritage At Miami Bluffs patio homes for sale, a really detailed page with IDX results may get me top spot today and years in the future.  True, some agents may create an IDX page for the same community, but offer no substance about the community.  A consumer WILL see the difference in a click or two.

So as you can see, the target audience makes a difference doesn't it?

Now another question to ask yourself "do the search engines see me as an authority about _________?".

If you're just starting out, there's a good chance you'll blog about anything and everything.  Recipes, local events, open houses, here's a picture of my puppy, etc.  While there's a place for just about any topic you want to explore, early in your blogging life you might just be confusing Google and company as to what your blog is about.  The more quality content you can provide that is real estate related, the better the odds that the bots start to recognize you as a real estate agent who just might know a little something about your local market.

Continue to build on that foundation with regular content additions and the odds of being found by a potential home seller or buyer go up.

Do you need to blog every day?

No, although if you're first starting out, more often is probably going to be better.  The more you blog, the easier it gets and more posts means more changes to be at the end of a search result that matters.

Keep generating UNIQUE, QUALITY content and you're going to like the results if you've got the dedication to see it through to results.
