The Holiday Season can be challenging for those without family and friends to celebrate. For me the fall season in general has always been a wonderful time of year, but a few years back it was also a difficult time. So I appreciate that the season may be difficult for some.
Since that time I've focused on my daughters and their families more than ever. This holiday season I'm travelling to visit my daughters! Thanksgiving was spent in Ames, Iowa with my daughter Erin and granddaughter Emma!
(Pictured above is Erin's Christmas Cactus!)
My granddaughter, Emma, is a very bright, spunky 8 year old who used to call me "Fluffy" as a term of endearment. Although now she calls me Grandma Jan :)
Times like these are so special so throughout the year, I plan where I'll go to visit each family. Erin is a nurse at the local hospital so I'm mindful of her schedule and she plans for days off to make it work.
This is the second year in a row visiting Erin for Thanksgiving. Last year we made an entire dinner with just the 3 of us. LOTS of leftovers and we had a great time cooking in Erin's kitchen. She lives in downtown Ames in a 100 year old house near the hospital.
Emma loves to swing and we go for walks regularly to the local park and to downtown Ames, 2 blocks away. Her dog, Homer, is ever vigilant so that nothing happens to her. Normaly he's smiling, but I surprised him with a quick snapshot. Homer loves his walks!
Emma's elf, however, surprised all of us by tee peeing the tree! Erin follows our ritual of decorating the Christmas tree after Thanksgiving dinner so the next day - Emma awoke to this little prankster!
We had a great visit and it's always hard to leave. Each of my daughters are uniquely different and I appreciate all of their differences. Erin holds a Fine Arts degree from USC and is currently an RN working on her masters in nursing. She is engaged! We're all excited for her wedding and look forward to an outdoor wedding maybe next summer?
I hope you and your loved ones are celebrating in your own style this year!
