Hi Ray... I so get it... I've been collecting my Christmas ornaments for some 50 years and they hold special meaning for me. Each year as I unpack them to put on my trees it's like finding "old friends." I've had the same creche since 1971... paid $5.00 for it at a seasonal Christmas store in New York City on Fifth Avenue... I was a grad student and that was all I could afford. I've cared for that creche since and it still looks as good as it did 50 years ago.

Our ornaments are in a box in the closet garage. Last time I opened it was in Napa when I decorated the fireplace mantle...with 3 cats who can leap talk fences and walls, a tree was out of the question. I have kept a few out, and bought a few since. They will be probably go to my nephew eventually. A

We put up a smaller tree this year and only used ornaments that had memories of family or vacations we have taken. It was a tree adorned with memories

I like that description, Nina Hollander. They are like old friends.
I remember our cats used to love Christmas too, Ron and Alexandra Seigel. They did create a little chaos for sure, but they are 100% worth it.

Those are the best Christmas trees, Ed Silva. I hope you have the chance to make more great memories in 2021.
Hi George Souto, I hope next year has only great experiences for you. Hopefully, 2021 will be better for all of us.
You touch on a very important point, the memories that are brought back each and every year with the decorations is very important.

It is remarkable all the memories that flash back each year, Brian England. It looks like I need to find some AZ decorations to start some new Christmas traditions.

Unpacking Christmas ornaments is part of the Holdiay surprise. Remembering where, when and who you were with brings back such wonderful memories!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400, I agree with you 100%. We need a bigger house, though. We can't get all the memories out! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Each time I help a family get their home ready to sell and we have a household of things to clean up, I wonder what the late homeowner valued and what memories went with all the things, Endre Barath, Jr.. To me, it is a sad day when the dumpster shows up.
I love just about everything about Christmas except shopping 🙃

Hi Raymond Henson, SRES, GRI - we cherish our old traditions as we make new ones. Just gave me another idea for a blog.

I agree, Grant Schneider. Sometimes those traditions are not apparent until you look back. My wife made me save some ceiling fans that I removed from a rental this year. More junk, I thought. She painted one just before Christmas of a snowman juggling snowballs. It is so cute and is a perfect addition to our traditions.
I look forward to your blog with the new idea.
It depends on the year, but this year we will put things away after the 2nd. The real work is the decorating. It takes us about three days to get everything in place, but it is fun and Russell just loved it. Happy New Year to you Joan Cox. I hope the New Year is a special one for you!

Hi Raymond- thanks to Grant Schneider for mentioning this post in his!!! Those ornaments and decorations are not clutter but memories to be shared. I love the idea that you made handmade gifts this year. One year my cousins and I did something similar although the gifts had to be consumable. (we like to eat)

Grant Schneider, thank you for all you post. I know you inspire many, including me.
Hi Kathy Streib, I definitely like the consumable gifts too. I was not a big fan of the only homemade rule the year we did it, but after the fact, it seems as though we all enjoy those presents the most.
Raymond Henson, SRES, GRI - It doesn't look like clutter to me! I wish I had Christmas with decorations, a Christmas Tree, and a Christmas meal. It has been a long, long time since I did.
I see happiness, love, and celebration in your photographs.
