A Christmas Challenge - Yes, There's a Way Around Everything
Day-in and day-out, clients/sphere were sharing stories about increasing loneliness of those who are at-risk and have found themselves quarantining for 10 straight months. I feel so blessed to have a hubby who gives the best hugs in the world but, it also made me realize how awful it must feel NOT to have that right now. The holidays had to bring on a whole new level of loneliness.
I had to find a way to focus on getting the grandmas in our family, to our home for Christmas. We missed them during Thanksgiving and promised them that we would somehow, some way, figure out Christmas.
Talking to my best girlfriend, I expressed my sadness for the elderly ladies in our family. She explained that every one was going through this and we just had to be careful. I knew that was a 'pat' answer that she HAD to share with me but, I went on to explain an idea I had.
Fauci had just said that if the COVID-19 virus was going to be spread, it happened within just under 7 days. Their new criteria is now to quarantine 7-10 days.
My idea was that we, as a family, bubble for 7 to 10 days. We had time and it would give the grandparents in the family hope, being able to see their family. Coincidentally, my BFF is the head of the Southeast's first & largest COVID virtual hospital. She's all about this virus. I knew my suggestion wouldn't get her blessing but, I had planted the seed!
My husband and I began sharing my idea with our family. Some, who work outside the home could not count on being able to bubble but, it gave them time to reschedule outside meetings and travel. Heck, it helped me to prepare and revise my own calendar...just in case.

We watched the news, listened to others' sentiments about our plan and FINALLY, my BFF acknowledged they were bubbling and doing the same with only a few members of her family - those she was 100% confident, would not take a single chance. Hallelujah! I had her blessing and can't tell you how much that meant to me.
It also made us more diligent about serious conversations with our family members - we were doing this for the grands who had been closed-in for 10 solid months. IF they couldn't bubble, we would FaceTime with them but, REALLY wanted them to consider their parents/grandparents. Keeping them safe was our MAIN concern.

After much ado, we had a good sized group for Christmas. We were all ecstatic to see other family (IRL) and there were a LOT of tears shed - happy tears! None of us wanted the day to end but, we left with happiness and thankfulness in our hearts - and positive, exciting hopefulness of vaccines to come! We're planning a mid-year celebration together - perhaps a 'COVID-19 is Behind Us' celebration?! We have a while to decide on a name - but, at least we are confident it won't be 10 months again before we see one another.
Many thanks to Head Elf Carol Williams & Santa Anna Banana for hosting this fabulous December challenge. There's still time to participate! Read more about the challenge here.
