Active Rain ~ Who Knew - Why AR Points?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Beam & Branch Realty TREC #547752

If you are new to Active Rain or you've been here a while, you may still not understand the whole "point' thing here in the Rain. When I joined almost 10 years ago, I had no concept of even blogging much less receiving points. As I continued to engage, post, follow, like, etc. the points just started racking up.

So what do these points mean to us as AR members? The reasons are numerous:

  1. Points provide us with goals in an achievement-based manner.
  2. As your points grow, you rise in ranking in your area, city, state, and nationally.
  3. Points show your engagement to other AR members as you like, invite, and comment.
  4. Growing points means you are committed to blogging and to the AR community.
  5. The more you engage with the members, you will find and meet new friends from all over the country.

For an extensive list, see the AR Post on Points. Here are some of the ways to earn points:

225 - Posting a blog

100 - daily logging in

25 - comments on other posts

6 - When someone likes your post

There are so many other ways to earn points through following others, having them follow you, re-blogging, AR Contests, Inviting others to join AR, and more. As your points accumulate, you will have fun climbing the point ladder.

The very best part of the entire platform of Active Rain is the engagement amongst the members. The help, mentoring, care, teaching, and support is what makes this site different. I have met so many wonderful people along the way and have AR friends all over the country!

So jump in and collect those points. You will have fun while engaging with the Active Rain family. AR points, who knew? Stay tuned for many more tips and tricks here in the Rain.

Like everyone mentioned, this is about networking, meet a learn with new people and their wise journey, but points are there for a reason. What about thinking that everyone share some level of competition? Giving you a sense of growing and progress? I like very much AR and have learned a lot here. I'm thankful for everything and everyone. Happy Holidays

Hi Paula... I had no clue about points until I was well over the 250,000 point level. Sat in on a webinar with Bob Stuart where he mentioned that at 500,000 points our account was free. Say what???

Paula,

What a great motivational post for these trying times! The setting of goals is synonymous with the achievement of success. I'll leave these words, which are displayed in a small picture frame on my desk........."Successful people, regardless of their endeavor, understand the importance of being able to finish"!

Good Morning Paula McDonald, Ph.D.

I always viewed points as a good incentive to get a free account after that it keeps one engaged in the community

Hello Dr. Paula McDonald, Ph.D. - it is all about the people and the connections for me.  Yes, learning and sharing take place here and that is done between the people. The points are like the frequent miles I have and never use.

Hi Paul,
I think the original purpose of the points is a great engagement tool. People like to be rewarded for participation.   As engagement grows, the real value is revealed... and it's not the points. It is the relationships created.

Some of the earliest challenges on ActiveRain were intended as teaching challenges and to reward those that chose to learn, the points were awarded extra.

The treat to AR is the engagement with members across the country and the friendships that develop as well.

When I joined points were my motivation. I wanted to climb that ladder in my city. Then I found other agents from both NH and all over the country would like and comment on my blogs. I received some incredible tips on how i could wrote better, topics to cover and how to use AR better. It was not long my first new listing came from a blog. Then another and another. The more active i was, the more new leads i got. Then referrals... they come from all over the country. All these years later i have some great friends made here in the rain. As for points, i still love them and rose to #1 in the state of NH

I need to research and see if I can find online tutorials on how to get the most out of AR.  Simple things about inserting videos, photos, sizing graphics, which boards to post to, etc. Thanks for these simple tips.
