A challenging Monday morning in Naperville...

By

Good morning…
7:47 AM. Monday morning December 28th…
I woke this morning feeling down…
Not depressed, necessarily. But certainly with a bit of sadness and loss of hope. A distinct lack of joy has taken over my being…
What does my day hold? It is, after all, Monday morning, the start of a new week…
A day for appointments. For handshakes. For hugs. For smiles…
But not this year. Maybe not next year. Maybe never again…
The days of my week blur together as if in some scene from the Twilight Zone…
Will today be different from yesterday? From tomorrow?
Probably not. I have no where to go. No experiences to feel. No people to meet. No smiles to give…
Just another day as we approach the end of 2020, the longest of years…
With no clear plan for the day, and no place important to be, I find myself sad at the lack of prospects for my day…
The last 9 months have been tough on me. Feeling isolated in ways that are hard to explain…
Times that used to be filled with new adventures, people, and smiling faces, are now spent sitting at home waiting…
Waiting for what? The curve to flatten? The positivity rate to go down? A vaccine?
These things have all come and gone, yet still I sit here waiting…
Waiting for someone to tell me that everything is ok. Waiting to be told that it is finally safe to go outside and experience life…
Waiting for the schools, businesses, and churches to be open…
Oh such distant and fond memories I have of life. The little things that give our life texture and meaning that I used to take for granted...
But things have changed…
The schools are closed. As is our church. Our office, while still open, is nearly empty, and the few people there are masked up and socially distanced…
Life is meant to be lived. I know this, but somehow I find myself just passing time…
Waiting.
For what? I no longer know…

It is a good time to reach out and help those in need. Many families are food insecure and others are facing eviction or foreclosure.

Give the gift of kindness and you will be rewarded with happiness.

It can be difficult, yes. An isolating year on many fronts. But we will hug again, I'm sure of it. Roy is on to something...

Hi Deb!  I hope you are right about hugging again.  Seems like a large chunk of society might prefer masks and distance indefitintely, and that worries me...

This year seems to be beating the humanity out of us in hopes of stopping a virus with a 98-99% survival rate for the overwhelming majority of the population.  I feel much the same way you do.  After so much panic, how does the government undo it?

Hi Chris!!  Thanks for reading.  I am worried the govt cannot undo the fear.  I said this last march.  You can't turn off the economy and then turn it back on as if by a switch...

For me it all gets better after the second cup of coffee and then the interacting with people even if only by phone

Ken Tracy Hang in there. This to shall pass. The one positive thing is you are waiting while others ignore. Many people run around as if there is not a virus and wonder why people are wearing masks. They say no one will make them prisoners and this is all a hoax.

Hi Hannah!  I hope it passes soon!
