These are a few of my favorite things...
Each year, our trees are wrapped in shrink wrap and packed away until the next Thanksgiving. While I love that I don't have to hang all of the ornaments (one of our trees probably has hundreds of ornaments), I still have to straighten out the branches and touch many of the ornaments in the process.
Every single ornament has a story - there is even a story that goes with the simplest of ornaments! For a long time, we tried to keep the historic ornaments together, a patriotic section, a sporting corner, an area just for the kids ornaments, one for travel - and the list goes on. Somehow, one year, they seem to be mixed in together. Many came off in the move and they were replaced rather haphazardly.
So, the organized (maybe a little OCD) part of me, didn't think this haphazard collection was going to work! Quite the contrary - I loved it and had someone very special to us who spent time looking at our tree this year, say that it was the most fascinating tree he'd ever seen! It really does have a LOT of history on it - so much so that no one else would ever appreciate it as much as we do.
Here are a few of my favorites...
These are from clients this year so, I had to feature these first.
Top Left: When Ray was in Denver, I discovered Avocado Toast - O M G - it's SUCH a weakness for me! I have posted a few times to FB about it and shared my recipe there. One of my clients couldn't wait to drop this one off for me this year - so appropriate!
Bottom Left: Many of my clients have a wicked sense of humor and this one, I LOVE! It's perfect to remember all of the crazy things about 2020 that we will be pushing out of our memories as quickly as possible! Every year, we can be reminded of all that we have to be thankful for that year - #1 - it wasn't 2020!
Top Right: As I mentioned, one of my clients knew that I collected the White House ornaments but, was missing the year of my anniversary. I used to joke that it was the busiest year of my life and I forgot a LOT that year! Anyway, one of my sweet clients found this for me. How thoughtful!
Bottom Right: This was such a cute gift from a client that shares my love for owls! We had an owl nest at our previous home and they used to sit on my our roof. I was always amazed at their wing span - they always seemed short and dumpy to me. However, they have an extremely wide wing span and they are incredibly graceful. - and not dumpy at all!
Of course, I have. to share the beautiful angel that one of my patients gave me many years ago.
These are simply favorites of mine from years past.
One of my BFFs loves to give me ornaments for my tree - she takes great pleasure in gifting me something that 'fits me' and that is unique each and every year. The believe angel is one that she gave me (top left) and it is the most special ornament on my Panther tree - and has been since we got that tree!
Another girlfriend knows my passion for shoes so, a few years ago, she gifted me this one (top right). I have several on the tree but, this one is my favorite.
Our teal and chartreuse tree that had red cardinals added this year, has always had just a bit of red, white and blue with this ornamet given to me by another BFF. I absolutely loved that the color of the statue of liberty (bottom left) matched our tree colors and the flag really popped since it was the only thing that wasn't teal or chartreuas on the tree - until the cardinals!
Another one of our White House Historic ornaments - this is one of my favorites. The green background really helps show off all of the detail in this lovely ornament. (Bottom right, of course)!
In a year of so much chaos, I found many blessings in 2020. The Christmas season this year was a particularly wonderful time to reminisce - about Christmases past and where we've been throughout life. I will say it made me miss travel a bit - and attending sporting events - but, I quickly moved to being thankful for having had the opportunity to do both.
