Claudia Alta Taylor was born in Karnack, Texas back in 1912. She was a shy and quit girl that spent much of her time outdoors. She attended school in Jefferson, Texas graduating from Marshall Senior High School at the tender age of 15. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Alabama for just one summer session.
She moved back to Texas enrolling at St. Mary’s Episcopal College for Women. She graduated in 1930, however she continued her education at the University of Texas. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with honors in 1933, and a second bachelor’s degree in journalism cum laude in 1934. Later on, that same year she married her husband at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in San Antonio, Texas. Her husband decided to enter politics, she took $10.000.00 of her own money to help him run for Senator. He enlisted in the Navy at the onset of WWII, so she ran his congressional office. She died in 2007, she was 94.
What you may not know about Claudia is that her nursemaid Alice Tittle gave her a nickname of Ladybird, that’s right I’m writing about another First Lady, Ladybird Johnson. Her husband Lyndon B. Johnson the 36th President of the United States.
