We have all heard take lemons and make lemonade (or a vodka lemonade in 2020), right? Well, I once heard the saying that when you squeeze a lemon, what comes out is lemon juice. Why? Because that is what is inside of the lemon.
Likewise, when we get under pressure, when we get “squeezed”, what comes out is what is inside of us. Do we yell and scream and cuss? If so, that is a reflection of what is inside of us. We can always choose that. Even a monk in a vow of silence could choose that. And the choices we make become habit. Any habit becomes a choice. Choosing to do nothing is still a choice and it becomes a habit until we become an apathetic couch potato. Or we can choose peace, forgiveness, love, calm, gratitude, etc… When we are given the opportunity, the choice that we make says a lot about us as well. Even the kinds of opportunities we select can say a lot about us.
People who have gone through a step study have to go through a “step 4” where they list everyone they have wronged and those that have wronged them. Those that they have wronged, they then go and make amends. After they have completed their program, they are then to reflect on a daily basis who they have wronged. Those that have done this for some time even reflect on an hourly basis.
What if you took the time to review your choices daily or even hourly? Might you find your habits then taking you closer to the person that you truly want to be?
