    AR Tuesday Meet-Up -
ADU Methods And Excitement
   With John DL Arendsen

Starting off the New Year with a fascinating presentation from John DL Arendsen, the first Meet-Up of 2021 was packed with TONS of information.

John speaks in a calm voice and therefore his style made it possible to absorb all the new information he presented about his career with Crest Backyard Homes

John is a Factory Built Home Contractor. He explained that everything a new home process requires when being built on site is also the step-by-step process for a  factory-built home. So fascinating to think of that process.

Meet-Ups generally start on time at 2:00 pm ET BUT starting around 1:30 or so, people sign in to greet each other. During "visiting" time today, John explained how Jeff Dowler, CRS introduced him to our community. It is wonderful to see people in our own AR community and then listen to their participation with the speaker as well.

"What is an ADU?" someone asked and Carol Williams answered in the Chat. Carol also asked if there were a nation wide association for this type of home. John smiled and said he was so busy in his own area that he on;y worked there. Nothing national as far as he knew.

Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! asked John a great question about waste. She wondered about incinerating toilets instead of going to a traditional septic system. Her other very pertinent question was about what steps are taken to ensure that an ADU does not cause flooding problems for the main structure.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker asked about time-frame for a project. She cited issues getting building permits as a possible delay point.

The most beneficial part each week is how AR members with different specialties tie theior careers into the knowledge being shared. For example, Jan Green asked about energy saving features.

In fact, the 42+ people in attendance were so taken with John's presentation that he was invited to present again in a Q&A format!

This post is part of the January Meet-Up Challenge.

This is a great summary and I needed it since I am unable to attend the zoom meetings.  Jeff Dowler, CRS also introduced me to John DL Arendsen a few years ago and I enjoyed learning about ADU's during the lunch we had together.

Nice write up, capturing the highlights of yesterday's zoom meeting. I learned a lot Lynn and am planning on possibly building a few guest cottages for special occasions/events in the back yard. Avoiding the septic tie-in by installing incinerating toilets may be the best route to go. p.s. Thanks for the mention and have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the very kind words and overview of yesterdays ZOOM event Lynn B. Friedman. I thoroughly enjoyed finally having the opportunity to meet so many of the folks I've been following for so many years and very much look forward to attending and participating in forthcoming events.

I'm happy to answer any questions anytime from anyone about this fast spreading industry tha appears to be turning into a Nationwide zeitgeist. No doubt, affordable housing is the number one concern in real estate today.

I'm very fortunate to be on the leading edge and look forward to lending a helping hand to anyone needing information, knowledge and experience in this field.

Thanks for the summary, Lynn. John is certainly a wealth of knowledge about ADUs and the issues associated with building them.

It's been a pleasure knowing him for 13 years now...and to have been in multiple meetups with him in the last few years! It was fun to reflect back on our first meeting years ago in Leucadia at his office.

Lynn even with the glitches, John did an excellent job of not only overcoming them, but still be able to convey his presentation to us in a way he had our full attention.

I don't know how I missed this one earlier in the month but, thank you so much for participating in this month's challenge and for being a part of our weekly calls, Lynn!

I thought that despite the technical issues, John did a wonderful job. I know several of the members on the call had never even heard of ADUs!

Thank you for participating in this month's challenge!
