Our Friday morning meeting at the Association, featured Kevin Hougen with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, and he updated us on how COVID affected the City, and then drilled down into different industries.
Some items that he mentioned was -
~ many restaurants will close their doors, as 25% capacity is not enough, and most are losing $1,000 per day.
~ the number 1 job in Aurora right now is Nurses (not surprised), and #2 is truck drivers.
~ passenger count at Denver International Airport is at the same count this year as it was in 1947.
~ Aurora lost out on the Space Command bid, but Colorado Springs is still in the running.
~ there is a Space Post being built in Watkins, just East of Aurora
~ right now, there are approximately 49% working from home, and believe even after the pandemic is over, 30% will continue to work from home.
~ last year this time we were enjoying low unemployment rates (2.4%), in April was as high as 12%, but now hovering around 6.4%.
~ and to be rather funny, he said many were talking about still having adult children living in the basement, and need more "affordable housing", so they can enjoy being empty nesters!
It was a good Zoom meeting!
