Recycle as much as you can

Get a green start to the New Year by recycling as much as you can when you clean up from the holiday season.
  • Natural trees can be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on your regular recycling day. Remove all decorations.
  • Wrapping paper (only if it is not shiny, foil-lined or glittery), glass containers and many plastics can be easily recycled thanks to the City's single stream recycling program. Place them all in your bin by 7 a.m. for curbside pick-up.
  • Many retailers accept unwanted mobile phones for reuse. Consider donating yours.
  • Disposable batteries are not considered hazardous and can be placed in your household trash.
  • Rechargeable batteries, computers and other electronic devices should be taken to the Transfer Station. You might also consider holding on to unwanted electronic devices until the City's next community shredding event.
  • Not sure what else is recyclable? Download the Recycle Coach app or visit the Recycle Coach on the City's website. In addition to recycling pick-up reminders and schedule change notifications, it also has a handy look-up feature for what is and is not recyclable in Gaithersburg.

This is a City of Gaithersburg, Maryland announcement.

Roy Kelley Out here, if the trees are still green, not flocked and carefully stripped of the ornaments and hooks and all, you can sometimes find a farm which wants them to feed to the goats!

Roy,

We recycle every day, and separate our trash.  This is on automatic with us.  And every Thursday, it gets picked up.  A

Unfortunately for us, our dump will no longer be recycling. So sad...they expect us to just put it all together in our trash bags. Such a shame.

Good evening Roy Kelley,

Your post is so informative for your residents. I'm sure they appreciate understanding the recycling process better and a great way to start of 2021 by being more observant and willing to recycle!

Hi Roy Kelley Glad you are recycling. It seems that due to this pandemic so much more unrecyclable (if that is a word) trash has been created. My goal is to use less items that need to go into the trash. Re-use and recycle.

Larry and I recycle every week with the weekly pick-ups. What I am surprised at is when we sell at a condo community that does not recycle at all!

Hello Roy,  My wife recyles and takes it to the recyle center every Saturday morning to make sure it gets in the right recyle bins.  We only have one earth and we are doing our part.
