How did Ponte Vecchio get it's name? Ponte Vecchio was built 16 years ago and was named after the most famous bridge in Florence, Italy. The original Ponte Vecchio bridge dates back to 1218 when it was the only bridge in Florence which crossed the Arno River. It was re-built again after the flood in 1345.
During World War II it was the only bridge across the Arno that the fleeing Germans did not destroy.
The original Ponte Vecchio Bridge has a resilency that has withstood the test of time. Perhaps that is one of the reasons the name was chosen for this community.
