Pit Bull Dogs are again Allowed in Denver & Aurora CO

By

For years Pit Bull dogs have not been allowed in the city limits, as there had been many issues with violent dogs.  Those residents with this breed would have to search for homes outside these cities.

Denver approved residents to have Pit Bulls last week, and in the City Council meeting last night, the council made the decision this would not go to the public for a vote, but voted within themselves and approved this breed in Aurora as well.

This now will be easier to find homes for our Buyers who have this breed.   Residents will have to register them in both Denver and Aurora.

Hi Joan Cox - that is a large area not to allow pit bulls.  I am sure it is hard to enforce in an entire city.

Good morning Joan Cox it is sad when it's (for the most part) the owners and not the dog that is the challenge.

Brad, I agree, it isn't the dog, it is the owner.

Kat Palmiotti I am sure that is why the Aurora City Council made the decision, as the public was all up in arms.

Grant Schneider there are many cities in the metro area that DID allow this breed, but did eliminate some areas that were more affordable.

Rocky Dickerson that is why they have to be registered, and if no complaints, they will be grandfathered, and no longer have to register.

Roy, not sure why, but have run across MANY buyers with pit bulls, and have to be careful what area to show.

Hi Joan... I don't know that pit bulls are prohibited in my city/county. Some subdivisions do prohibit certain breeds. One thing I noticed when we were scouting shelters last year to adopt a dog was how many pit bull mixed breeds there were waiting on a home.

I'm sure many pit bull owners appreciate your post Joan Cox !  I watch Cesar Millan on TV and his worst bite was from a labrador retriever.  That's the #1 breed that American families select as their dog.  So actually any dog can be dangerous.

Wow Joan.  Amazing there was such a rule.  Free roaming dogs and cats are never a good idea. I hate dealing with animal droppings on my property, let alone be confronted by an unhappy free roaming dog.

Interesting what Edmonds WA has in place as per Brad Thomsen , makes sense.

Nina, maybe some cities do prohibit them then.

Susie Kay I do believe it is about the owner, not the dog.  If the dog is introduced to violence, it probably will act violent.

Gloria Todor No city in the Denver metro area allows free-roaming dogs, they must be on a leash.   Before both Denver and Aurora prohibited any resident to own and have a pit bull terrior in their yard or home.  Now they are approved, and have found many of my buyers have this breed.

The poor bread gets a bad rap for the way some people train and treat them.  They are very protective but as in all species if abused they lash out.  That should help some people that have good pets find something closer to services in town.

That is wonderful new.  Pit Bulls, like other breeds of dogs, are a product of how they are treated.  I know many sweet Pit Bulls.

Thank you for sharing Joan Cox.

I have to admit, I don't really like seeing any dog, not on a leash running at me no matter what type it is since I don't want to get bit, haha.

Ed, that is why owners need to register them, and after a year they can drop off the list.

Candace, I have clients with them too, and they are sweet.   It is the ones that have been abused.

Brian England I had a german shepherd on the couch with me, and had his mouth on my arm.   I am a bit afraid of dogs too.
