When I got into real estate, the average years a homeowner remained in a home for an average of 4 years. Then, 2008 happened, and we saw many homeowners make decisions to stay in their homes for many more years. There are those buyers that say --- I am NEVER MOVING AGAIN. We all know that can change.... I wish I had a dollar every time we hear this, then they call a few years later.
A good rule of thumb - if you have not used it in the last two years, you probably don't need it - toss it or donate it! Those medals Little Johnny earned back in the third grade could be tossed, but check with Johnny to see if he wants them! It is too easy to "save it for a rainy day" and forget it. Just because you have space, you still need to sift through these things!
Have computers and/or printers that you no longer use or need? Most cities offer to recycle these items and know that electronics and batteries need to be recycled safely and hazardous materials need to be disposed of through the right channels. Check with your local City, as there are programs through Waste Management to pick up paint, chemicals for your yard/gardens, and bugs. They even take fluorescent light bulbs.
With interest rates at historical lows, we are now seeing many homeowners desiring to make a move and first have to de-clutter and figure out what they do not need or want in the new home. Thinking of making a move in the near future, give me a call and let me walk your home and we can discuss what is needed to prepare your home for this Seller's market!
